Chandlers students' guests Read Across America

Chandler’s School celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America on March 4t-8. Read Across America is a reading awareness program put on to motivate and encourage all students to pick up a book and read.

The week was started off with an entertaining, performance from author, musician, storyteller and songwriter, Ronda Friend, who writes down home stories with a focus on character education traits and lessons. She put on a program enacting stories that inspired her books, sang songs, and engaged students in learning about the lessons in her books. After the performance she met with students in the library where she signed books and took pictures.

Before leaving the school, Mrs. Friend did a surprise performance for Mrs. Farris’s second grade class from her book Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse.

Also, during this week Chandler’s saw many guest readers from the community. A few of those included: Sheriff Steven Stratton, Taylor Shutt, Chris Cartas, Melanie Hughes, Contessa Orr, Carole Sindorf, Anna Watkins, and Muryd Scipio. Students enjoyed hearing books from them and having them in their classes.

We hope everyone took time to “Drop Everything and Read,” like we did last week.
