The Stuff the Bus Foundation of Southern Kentucky has honored a preschool class at Olmstead Elementary School taught by teacher Erica Marsh and paraeducator Bridget Drake. The class created the accompanying giant polka-dot pumpkin doorway for Stuffy’s Spooktacular Door Giveaway!
The class project, titled “Special in Every Spot,” led students in practicing their drawing, painting and scissor skills by creating their very own "bumpy & spotted" pumpkins to grow in the "Patch of Uniqueness” after they read The Bumpy Pumpkin by Natalie Horseman.
The preschoolers “learned that we may look different, have different strengths, and have our own special qualities, but each of us is wonderful in our own way. Our bumps, spots, and differences are what make us special! We celebrate what makes each of us unique because there is no one else quite like you.”
The preschool staff received information about the contest and decided to enter in order to possibly be awarded the funds, which they would use for a Halloween party for their AM and PM preschool classes. During this week-long project, the preschoolers “learned that we may look different, have different strengths, and have our own special qualities, but each of us is wonderful in our own way. Principal Katina Kemplin says, "We love getting to celebrate our kids - what makes them special and unique! Mrs. Marsh and Mrs. Bridget do a wonderful job of making each student feel loved, important, and special. They do so much to make school and student learning fun and engaging, and this is just one example of the great things that they make happen for our kids every day.”
