Brandi Violette, Special Ed teacher at Olmstead Elementary, has been awarded $2,000 from Dollar General.
Dollar General’s Youth Literacy Grants provide funding to schools, public libraries and nonprofit organizations to help students who are below grade level or experiencing difficulty reading.
According to Violette, she wrote the grant in hopes of purchasing technology that would help her students to become more "college & career" ready. The $2000 will be used to purchase iPads, cases with keyboards, and apps for use during classroom lessons to teach students how to become more self-sufficient in the classroom.
Success in the classroom will ultimately transfer to increased confidence for these students, both in and out of school.
This school year, Violette will provide materials for her 7th and 8th graders. She plans to apply for another grant soon, in hopes of purchasing the same technology for her 6th graders.
Both Violette and her students are very excited about what this grant means to her classroom and instruction.
