Macey Johnson, a senior at Franklin-Simpson High School and future Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) student, is receiving a $1,500 scholarship to SKYCTC as a result of Meritor, Inc. employee Lucille Gartman’s accomplishments.
Ms. Gartman, Site Manager at Meritor, Inc., was recently recognized by the Profiles in Diversity Journal as one of the 2017 Women Worth Watching in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
Headquartered in Troy, Mich., Meritor is a leading global supplier of drivetrain, mobility, braking and aftermarket solutions for commercial vehicle and industrial markets.
Gartman, along with the other STEM winners, will be profiled in a special STEM Women Worth Watching edition (release date April 2017) that celebrates them and enhances the visibility and reputations of the companies empowering, supporting, and employing these incredible women. They will also receive the 2017 crystal Women Worth Watching in STEM award. Each was nominated by their employers or colleagues for creating value for other women and companies, organizations and agencies behind women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
In recognition of Ms. Gartman’s accomplishment, Meritor awarded a scholarship to the STEM organization of her choice to further the education of women in one of the STEM fields.
“I am delighted to witness the continued acceleration of women in careers linked to STEM,” says Gartman. “It is an honor to represent Meritor with this STEM recognition and, in doing so, help support a young woman, like Ms. Johnson, in realizing her dream in a STEM career with this scholarship.”
Johnson will be graduating on May 20 from Franklin-Simpson High School with plans to enroll in the Nursing program at SKYCTC. She has taken enough classes through SKYCTC’s Dual Credit Program, along with two courses she is planning to take at SKYCTC this summer, to have 32 credit hours of college when she enrolls this Fall.
In addition to achieving a high grade point average in her studies, Macey Johnson has also been active in FBLA and BETA Club, and played on the varsity softball team.
“I am very thankful for this scholarship and know it will greatly impact me in achieving my goal of being a Nurse,” Macey says. “I would also like to thank Meritor, Inc. and Ms. Gartman for their generosity.”
