Every year, Adairville students participate in Hoops for Heart. Hoops for Heart teaches students how to take care of their hearts while they experience the joy of giving back to their community. The basketball skills the students learn and the experience of being part of a larger program all across the country will serve students for a lifetime. All money raised is donated to the American Heart Association.
This year, coach Jamie Neal at Adairville set a fundraising goal of $2,000. At the end of the campaign, students surpassed this goal and raised $2502! As a reward to students for their efforts, Adairville principal Katina Kemplin said that if the school goal was reached, she would dress as a duck for an entire day! When a duck costume wasn’t readily available, music teacher Justin Kirby produced an ostrich costume. On Friday, May 8, students were surprised to find their principal dressed for their success!
Other Hoops for Heart Campaign Highlights:
The top money raiser for K-5th grade was kindergartener Preston Mobley who raised $575. Second grader Kinsley Taylor earned 2nd place honors by raising $385.
The top money raiser for middle school was 8th grader Drake Baker, who raised $100. 6th grader Nathan Neal earned 2nd place honors by raising $75.
Preston will get to be principal for half the day, and Drake will be principal for the other part of day while Mrs. Kemplin follows their class schedules that day.
The top five homerooms will earn a popcorn party, and they are: Mrs. Tara Cox (kindergarten), Miss Vicky Finch (1st grade), Miss Jody Eblen (2nd grade), Mrs. Carol Ann Dossett (4th grade), and Mrs. Jennifer Robertson (6thgrade).
The teacher collecting the most was Jennifer Baker. She raised $100!
The total number of students who participated was 151.
