Reece Bogan hit 10 three-pointers to lead High Point Christian Academy of North Carolina to a 90-79 win over Russellville in the Blue Devils Invitational at Lexington Henry Clay High School Tuesday afternoon.

Bogan’s 36 points slightly eclipsed the 28 points scored by Russellville’s Mr. Basketball candidate, senior Pedro Bradshaw. In addition to his points, however, Bradshaw had 16 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals and an assist. He hit 9 of 16 two-pointers and 7 of 8 free throws and also added a three-pointer.

Jacob Naylor hit 5 three-pointers for the Panthers on 12 attempts from long range, and Elijah Kemp canned 2 of 3 treys. Naylor finished with 19 points, Kemp 13, and Jaylyn McMurry 11.

In addition to Bradshaw’s excellence at the line, Shon Kees, Micah Naylor and Jacob Naylor were each two for two in foul shooting. As a team, the Panthers went 17 of 21 at the line.

The problem was that High Point went 23 of 30 on foul shots, led by Jalen Seegars with 12 for 12 accuracy on the way to 20 points. Kyle Watkins added 12 points for the winners.

The North Carolinians led 22-20 after the first quarter, but Russellville went ahead 44-40 at the half with Kemp scoring seven in the quarter.

The Panthers, however, were outscored 22-10 in the third quarter, and that made the difference.

Bradshaw scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, but High Point hit 12 of 14 free throws in the final stanza, with Seegars going 10 for 10. Panther Paul Jones fouled out.

Dropping into the losers’ bracket, Coach Phil Todd’s team will play Belfry at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Pirates lost 70-62 to Henderson County Tuesday.
