The Logan County Cougars got their 2015 season off to a good start Tuesday by beating visiting Butler County 6-4.

Sedale Shannon scored two goals, one in each half. The goal that proved to be the game-winner came from Erik Williams 5:45 into the second half.

Evans Hughes got Coach Eric Evans’ team off to a good start by scoring in the first two minutes of the game. At the 13-minute mark, Shannon scored his first goal.

Garrett Wilhelm contributed to the next two goals. He kicked the Cougars’ third goal with 14 minutes gone, just a minute and a half after Shannon’s goal. Then near the end of the half, Wilhelm sent a corner kick toward Coby Foster, who scored on a header. That was one of two assists for Wilhelm.

Logan led 4-2 at the half. Both teams added a pair of goals in the second half.

After Williams’ goal 5:45 into the second half made it 5-2, Coach James Melton’s Bears scored slightly over a minute later. Butler County cut the lead to 5-4 six minutes later.

Shannon’s second goal with three minutes remaining proved to be the game clincher.

Kenny Cornist and Ashton Ross joined Wilhelm in recording an assist. Cornist is the Cougar goalkeeper.

Also playing in the opening match were Noah Bray, Zach Caudill, Matthew Edgar, Cameron Fagan, Jonathan Furlow, Logan Houchens, Josh McKinney, Peyton Moberly and Bryson Peters.

The Cougars will be in action again Thursday against visiting Hopkins County Central at 7 p.m.
