A golf scramble will serve as a fund raiser for Russellville High School Baseball on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Rolling Hills Golf Course with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

The fee for teams which register in advance is $200, but it goes up to $220 per team the day of the scramble. You can choose your own team or register individually with organizers forming those teams.

First prize for the winning team will be $400 with second place getting $300 and third $200. A new Nike driver will be awarded to the golfer with the longest drive. Two closest to the pins prizes will be a putter and a golf bag. Another $500 in door prizes will be given away.

A complimentary lunch will be served at the end of the day.

For more information or to register, contact Tim Summers at 270-776-3000 or sign up at Rolling Hills.

Hole sponsors are also being sought at $50 for one or $45 each for more than one. Donations of more door prizes are also welcome.

Funds are needed for further improvements and equipment for the Panthers, who are starting their second season under Coach Greg Shelton. Last year a new scoreboard was installed along with an irrigation system. Kelly Russell Field’s infield was upgraded to Bermuda grass over the summer. New uniforms are part of the upgrade.

RHS baseball made a spring break trip to Florida for the first time last year and another one is planned this spring, March 29-April 3.

The team also plans to hold the first Kelly Russell Classic April 24-26. The year 2014 marks the 30th anniversary of the death of Kelly Russell, who was struck in the head by a baseball while he was warming up to lead the Panthers into regional tournament action at Bowling Green High School in 1974.
