Five Russellville High School athletes qualified for state by placing in the top two in their event in the Class 1A regional track meet at McLean County this weekend.

The automatic qualifiers are:

*Demyiah Allen won shot put

*Octavius “Too too” Mckeage won Triple Jump.

*Justin Bigbee placed 2nd in both the 110m Hurdles and 300m hurdles.

*Jordan Inscoe partnering with DJ Smiley placed 2nd in the unified Long Jump, 2x50 Relay, and 2x200 relay.

Others who placed will have to wait and see for last group if their times/jumps qualify for state on May 29. They are:

*Trystanne Hickman got 3rd in Discus

*Mckeage placed 3rd in long jump

*Nevaeh Bigbee placed 4th in the 200m

*Madden Bloodworth placed 4th in both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles.

Overall the girls placed 5th out of 15 teams, and the boys placed 9th among 15 teams.

Coach Mikie Benton says, “Reiterating this again… parents, we are in desperate need of distance runners. We are placing in these meets without any distance runners at all. We would easily place top three in events with distance runners. So, remember this for next year!”

Joining Benton in coaching the teams are Cortez Reeder and Nick True.
