Sports teams flourishing in 'Cougar Land'

Good Monday afternoon to everyone in Cougar Land. Just wanted to share some more great news from the LC sports world.

FOOTBALL - The Logan County Cougars moved one step closer to a District and State Title by winning in their Round 1 Class AAAA matchup last Friday evening. The Cougars scored early and often. Early in the 3rd quarter the Cougars took a commanding lead 42-3 before completing the victory, 42-24 over Madisonville-North Hopkins. The Cougars will face Hopkinsville this Friday night for the 4A District 1 Championship at home starting at 7 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOL CHEER - The LC Cheer squad are now back-to-back Region Champs after their decisive win last Saturday at Bowling Green High School. The girls scored the highest total of all teams in their session. The Cougars will be going back to State on December 11th at George Rogers Clark High School! 

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHEER - The LCMS Cheer squad also won their respective KAPOS Regional Championship and a shot at the KAPOS State Middle School Championship on Dec. 18. 

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL - Both teams kick off the 2021-2022 season this week. The girls will play Bowling Green Junior High School tonight at 6 p.m. at LCHS.

The boys will play Tuesday at home against JoByrns also at 6:00pm.

GIRLS SOCCER - The Logan County Girls Soccer District Champ[ons were celebrated at halftime during last Friday's football game. This team has had a truly exceptional 2021 season. They captured their 8th District Title, finishing the season with a 15-4-1 record, the highest winning percentage in school history. Two of their four losses were to eventual regional championship teams. This team’s defense was outstanding. 

Not counting Covid Cancellation games, eleven of their fifteen wins were shutouts, the most in the history of the program. Offensively, they scored 85 goals, the second most in team history. Eleven players scored at least one goal. Ten players had at least one assist.

Several players earned individual season and tournament recognition.

Earning honors for the 13th District All Season Team were:

Brady Alsup, Kadyn Costello, Addie Corder, and Linnea Pitts

Earning honors for the 4th Region All Tournament Team were:

Kadyn Costello and Brady Alsup

Earning honors for the 4th Region All Season Team were:

Kadyn Costello, 1st Team

Linnea Pitts, Addie Corder and Brady Alsup, Honorable Mention

One player finished a particularly outstanding career this season.  During the 4th Region Tournament, Kadyn Costello scored her 100th career goal, finishing with a total of 104 career goals.  She now holds the school record for most career goals scored and most goals scored in a single season. She is being presented a game ball to commemorate her accomplishments.
