Visiting Franklin-Simpson outscored the Logan County Lady Cougars 10-3 from the middle of the first quarter to the middle of the second to build a 15-7 lead Friday in the district opener for both teams. That proved to be a lead Coach Dedra Adler’s team could never overcome.

Logan pulled to within 18-14 shortly before the half when Kadyn Costello scored on an assist from Emily Borders followed by a three-pointer and a free throw by Emily Borders and a free throw by Gracie Borders.

They pulled to within three points on a rebound goal by Emerson McKinnis and a goal and free throw by Costello.

And they tied the score at 24-24 on a Costello goal assisted by Abby Hinton after a Gracie Borders steal.

Franklin, however, outscored the young hosts 14-4 in the fourth quarter to win 41-29.

Kate Norwood led the Lady Cats with 18 points, hitting the only three 3-pointers the winners hit in 15 tries. Hadley Turner added 10 points. Alera Barbee pulled down 7 of her team’s 33 rebounds and Malyea Partinger 6.

Costello led Logan with 10 points and Emily Borders added 8. Gracie Borders and McKinnis tied for the game rebounding lead with 11 each of the Lady Cougars’ 32.
