With only three games remaining in their regular seasons, two senior quarterbacks from the Land of Logan have been piling on, amassing mounds of yards, completions and touchdowns.
Logan County’s John Logan Dockins and Russellville’s D.J. Quarles have accounted for a total of 2,808 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 124 completed passes.
Quarles has been sensational in the Panthers’ three straight wins to run their record to 4-3, including two district wins. For the season he has rushed for 845 yards on 83 carries, an average of 10.2 yards per carry.  Eleven of those runs have gone for touchdowns. His best game on the ground was against Hopkinsville, when he carried the ball 19 times for 238 yards and 4 TDs.
The three-year starter has completed 28 of 58 pass attempts for 521 yards and 6 touchdowns. In the Hopkinsville game, which will go down as one of the best ever for a Panther quarterback, he was 6 of 6 passing for 75 yards and a TD. Top passing yardage totals have been 149 yards against Hart County and 117 versus Metcalfe County, but those teams didn’t present the challenges Hoptown did.
Altogether he has 1,366 yards and 17 touchdowns, an average of almost 200 yards per game. His interception and fumble totals are not available.
Dockins has a few more yards to his credit, totaling 1,442. Most of his have come in the air. He’s completed almost 40 more passes (96) than Quarles has thrown, but their accuracy is similar. While Quarles is hitting on slightly less than 50 percent of his aerials, Dockins is at 51 percent at 96 of 188. Dockins is putting the ball in the air 27 times per game, on the average. He has thrown for 1,116 yards and 8 touchdowns. He has thrown seven interceptions and coughed up three fumbles.
On the ground, Dockins has gone forward for 446 yards but he’s been sacked 9 times and thrown for other losses totaling 120 yards, so his net gain is 3.8 yards a carry on 86 attempts. He has scored seven touchdowns on the ground.
Dockins has been responsible for 15 touchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions by rushing or passing. Individual games totals were not available.
The quarterbacks have been involved in almost every snap their teams have taken, either rushing, passing or handing off.
Quarles has thrown all but three of the Panthers’ passes with freshman Barrett Croslin completing the other two of three for 39 yards. Quarles and classmate Davonta Bryant (538 yards on 80 carries) have combined for over half of the rushes (163 of 282) and 1,383 of the team’s 1,959 total.
Dockins has held on to the ball for 83 of the Cougars’ 136 rushes. Trailing him in that category are the balanced duo of Logan Anderson with 179 yards on 33 carries and Todd Haley with 33 carries for 173 yards.  No other Logan player has thrown a pass, not even with Coach Lee Proctor’s fondness for fake punts. So Dockins has either thrown or rushed on 274 of the Cougars’ 371 plays.
A stat that doesn’t involve the QBs is receiving. Victor Hampton is by far and away the Panthers’ leading pass catcher with 18 receptions for 373 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kevin Temple has 5 catches for 26 yards and Layton Bush 4 for 71 and two scores. Antonio Todd has a touchdown to his credit on one of his catches, and the only other reception is by Trey St. Remy for 37 yards.
Twin Lancaster leads the Cougars’ receiving corps with 27 catches for 458 yards and 5 touchdowns. The fourth leading rusher, Justin Rone, has pulled in 17 passes for 268 yards and 2 TDs.  Anderson has caught 11 passes with Cody Thurston and Brice Moore pulling in 10 each.  Ten Cougars have caught passes from Dockins, a four-year starter. The other five pass catchers have been Jacob Lawrence, Jon Richardson, Corey Jones, Haley and Steven Jones.
Defensive statistics are not available for the Panthers.
Kody Jordon leads Logan with  43 tackles, including 32 unassisted, with 4 fumble recoveries and 2 sacks. Thomas Dixon has 33 tackles, a fumble recovery and a sack. Charlie Porter has 32 tackles, all but one of them unassisted, and has scored a touchdown on defense.  Haley has 23 unassisted tackles among his 25 total, 5 of them for a loss. Aaron Baldwin has 23 tackles while Richardson and Lancaster have brought down 19 each.
The Cougars (1-6) face undefeated and highly ranked Allen County-Scottsville at LCHS Friday. They must either beat AC-S this week or Franklin-Simpson the following Friday to have a chance to make the playoffs.
Russellville (4-3) will play a district game at Adair County Friday.
