Greenwood led the Logan County Lady Cougars 38-21 with 2:13 remaining in the third quarter Tuesday after Jacqueline Jackson hit a pair of free throws resulting from a technical foul on Logan coach Finley Baird.

That technical seemed to fire up her team and make the officials realize Greenwood could commit fouls, too. Logan scored the final 13 points of the third quarter, added four more points to the streak to tie the game, and extended the domination to 23-1 before GHS got a basket to fall.

Coach Zack Simpson, who drew a technical himself, got his team back to within a point, but Logan took advantage of key reserve play by KJ Page and Addie White and the free throw shooting of Peyton and Paige Vanzant along with Kennedy Nichols to seal the 58-50 comeback win.

At the end of the third quarter, Page passed to Sarah Beth Hale for a 3-pointer. Then she started the fourth quarter with an assist to Paige Vanzant. In the final two minutes of the game, White made an opening for Hale on a pick and then scored herself on an assist from Paige Vanzant. When Jackson finally missed a free throw, it was White who pulled down the rebound.

Hale led Logan with 18 points, 15 of them coming in the second half. Paige Vanzant scored 17 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, while 11 of Nichols’ 12 were scored after halftime.

Jackson scored 21 for Greenwood. Carly Miller, who stayed in foul trouble, added 10.

The Lady Cougars hit 18 of 23 free throws. Greenwood hit 10 of 15 foul shots and made almost double the turnovers of the visitors—33 to 17.

Logan County improved its record to 18-9 while Greenwood fell to 10-13.
