Josh Matthews, Lewisburg School principal, announced the hiring of Christy Lucas as assistant principal.

“We took our time in hiring an assistant principal, because we felt someone with ties to the school and community would better meet the needs of our students and staff,” Matthews tells The LoJo

Serving Lewisburg School for the past 23 years, Lucas certainly fulfills this requirement. She worked as a special education teacher for 21 years before becoming the school guidance counselor for the past two years.

Lucas’ certifications include: a bachelor's degree from Western Kentucky University in special education and middle grades social studies, a masters degree in exceptional child education, and a Rank I in secondary school counseling.

“I believe her counseling experience will be a huge asset in her new role,” says Matthews, “We believe in making sure discipline is not punitive and strive to give students an opportunity to learn from their mistakes. Ms. Lucas works hard to build relationships with our students, which will allow her to better connect with them when discipline is required.”

Lucas recently received her principal certification from the University of the Cumberlands and will assume her new duties on Jan. 2.

Matthews concludes: “I couldn’t be happier with our selection. Ms. Lucas has an unbelievable work ethic and is highly vested in our school. We share very similar views about education and have clear ideas of how to make Lewisburg School a place that educates the whole child.

“Great things continue to happen at Lewisburg--Assistant Principal Lucas is a prime example.”
