Russellville Superintendent Leon Smith has announced that Russellville Independent Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday because of widespread illness. This is his announcement:

“Due to a large number of student absences due to illness, we will be dismissing school for the remainder of the week. There will be no school in Russellville Independent Schools on Thursday, Feb. 9, and Friday, Feb. 10. We will return to school on Monday, Feb. 13. Hopefully, this four-day break will provide an opportunity for students to recover from their illnesses.

“To make up the one day already missed for snow and these two days due to illness, school will be in session on the following dates: Friday, Feb. 17’ Friday, March 17; and Friday, April 14.

We are currently still scheduled to get out of school on Friday, May 19. However, any additional days that we miss will be added to the end of the calendar, which means we would have to start making our days up on Monday, May 22.”
