Death claims former Russellville City Clerk Billy Bibb

Long-time Russellville City Clerk Billy Bibb died Wednesday at age 92. He had been a policeman and a fireman for the city before becoming the top aide to multiple mayors. His funeral will be held Monday morning at Second Baptist Church where he had been a deacon.

Lady Cougars fall by 3 in tournament

Statistics are not yet available, but the Logan County Lady Cougars dropped a 3-point decision to Bullitt Central (49-46) in the R.W. Williams Classic at LaRue County High School Tuesday. Coach Finley Baird's team will play Union County, which lost 54-47 to host LaRue Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Logan time.

Cheaney named regional player of week

Russellville Lady Panther Senior basketball player Loreal Cheaney was voted player of the week after her outstanding performance against district opponent Todd County. Cheaney recorded a triple double with 24 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 steals while leading the Lady Panthers to a victory. The award is sponsored by Bowling Green Oak Tree Awards. Oak Tree presents weekly Player of the Week awards for both male and female athletes in the Fourth Region along with Edmonson County and Butler County of the Third Region.

Cougars get district win by beating Todd 76-67

The Logan County Cougars hit six 3-pointers in the third quarter to turn a close game into an LCHS district win Friday against visting Todd Central by a 76-67 count. Ethan Smock hit a pair of 3-pointers and a drive late in the third quarter on the way to 18 points. Brett Wooden and Kelby Epley joined Smock in couble figures, and John Mark Page hit 5 of 6 free throws and got some key rebounds late in the game. Defense against Todd's big men by Robert Dancer & Caden  McKinnis helped immensely. Third Bell & Lorenzo Garcia each scored 8. Mykal Hampton, Austin Rayno, & TerVareus Bowens also scored in the win. Clayte Weathers hit a pair of treys and scored all the points as Coach Frank Johnson's Rebels jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Wooden came in to turn the momentum Logan's way. John Calvary scored 13 points in the second half on the way to 21. Nolan Barrow had 13 points, Weathers 12 and Travay Henry 8 in the loss.

Auburn Christmas Home Tour set Sunday

The Auburn Historical Society’s Annual Christmas Tour of Homes will be held Sunday, featuring houses that are not only beautiful but also historic. Homeowners who are opening their doors for the public are Ben & Katina Kemplin (12345 Bowling Green Road), Freddy & Helen Jordan(5359 Middleton Rd.) and Tommy & Emily Hayes (729 Montgomery Rd.) The Auburn Museum and Village, featuring the chapel, cabin, jail and school house, will also be open. Tickets for the tour, which will run from 2-5 p.m., are $10 and can be purchased at the museum, 438 West Main Street. Each ticket purchased is good for a 15 percent reduction on a meal at Federal Grove Bed & Breakfast.

Choral concert canceled because of weather forecast

From Larry Vaught: To all of our friends of music...due to the possibility of hazardous icy roads... We are CANCELING the joint choral concert with the Logan County High School Choir, the All County/ City Elementary Chorus, and the Lewisburg Ranger Chorus, which was scheduled for this Sunday. Merry Christmas to all...and planning to make more beautiful music as we ring in a New Year of 2017.

Cougars' Saturday games moved to South Warren

From Logan County Athletic Director Greg Howard: The boys Freshman, JV, and Varsity basketball games that were originally scheduled to be played here at LCHS against South Warren this Saturday, will now be played at South Warren. Freshman game will start at 2 p.m. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Joe Sparks named to Russellville school board

From Russellville Superintendent Leon Smith: "Russellville Independent Schools received notification from Commissioner Stephen Pruitt on Monday,that Mr. Joseph Sparks has been appointed to fill the open board position created by the death of Mr. David Corbin. Mr. Sparks will fill out the term until 2018. The appointment is effective Jan. 1. We welcome Mr. Sparks to the board as we work together to serve our students!  Every Child, Every Day!"

Panthers overwhelm district rival Todd

Russellville fans have grown accustomed to running clocks in football, and they continued that trend in the first week of the basketball season Friday. Coach Phil Todd's team built a running clock in the third quarter and romped past visiting district opponent Todd Central 77-39 to complete a girl-boy RHS sweep. Pedro Bradshaw & Elijah Kemp each scored 16 points for the Panthers with Jaylyn McMurry adding 14 and the Naylor brothers, Micah & Jacob, getting 8 each. Nolan Barrow led Todd with 16 points and Kyle Harris added 10.

Lady Panthers edge Todd for district win

The Russellville Lady Panthers dodged a bullet Friday and secured a district win for Coach Calvin Head against his alma mater. Led by Gabbi Poirier, the Lady Panthers scored the last 14 points of the first half to take a 25-20 lead over visiting Todd Central. Bailey Conquest scored the first five points of the third quarter to tie the game, but Victoria Day scored, Loreal Cheaney hit a layup on an assist by Carleigh Phillips, and Cheaney hit two rebound shots to end the quarter at 38-30 RHS. That eight-point lead was intact when Michaela Robertson hit two straight shots for Coach Steven McGhee's team began a comeback. Sarianna Allen hit a key shot for the home team, which would be their last field goal of the game. Robertson and Alexis O'Daniel each hit a pair of free throws, and the Lady Rebels had a chance to win when Cheaney missed the front end of the bonus with 8.7 seconds left. Todd got off two shots but missed both, and Russellville won 48-47. Cheaney scored half of the points with 24, and Poirier added 9.

RHS basketball season tickets on sale

The Russellville High School Athletic Department is offering basketball season passes. This will be good for all home regular season basketball games. Passes are $40 each. They can be purchased at the school. They will be available at the door of tonight's doubleheader with Todd Central.

Farmers' Market Bazaar to be at Extension Office next 2 days

The Logan County Farmers' Market Bazaar will be held at the Extension Office Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Friday from 9-2. Vendors will be Farmers' Market vendors from this summer and fall who will be showing and selling crafts, soaps, foods, Christmas decorations, jewelry and clothing. Many of the crafts and foods will be made from items grown on vendors' farms. Soups will be available free for customers.

Panthers' balanced attack too much for East

Sophomore Jacob Naylor led four Panthers in double figures Tuesday as Russellville beat visiting Warren East 71-53. Naylor scored 19, Belmont-signee Pedro Bradshaw 18, Shon Kees 14, and Jaylyn McMurry 11. Bradshaw hit 7 of 10 free throws, while adding 14 rebounds 8 assists. Kees hit 7 of his 8 field goal attempts and was 3 for 3 from the line. Bryson Wallace led the Raiders with 11 points while Adante Barber & Patrick Satterfield added 8 each.

RHS collecting books to send home with students for reading pleasure

The Russellville High School library and book club are sponsoring a book drive for Christmas. The goal is to collect via donations at least 600 books (used or new) so that each student in grades 6-12 goes home with a book for Christmas. People are asked to box up as many books as they are willing to donate and drop them off at in the library. The book drive ends Monday, Dec. 12. Books will be distributed to students on Thursday and Friday, December 15-16. For more information, contact Bethanie Hargett-Slack orLauren Fynboe at Russellville High School.

deGraffenried Chorale to present free Christmas celebration Sunday

The deGraffenried Chorale will present “A Carol Celebration” on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Temple, 395 South Main Street in Russellville. Mary Beth Dowden, chorale director, and Susan Fox, accompanist, along with chorale members invite everyone to this free event to celebrate the season of Christmas. Guest musicians will be Shelly Burgess, cello, and Tom O’Kelley, percussion.

Auburn Christmas Parade Sunday to honor heroes

Auburn’s Christmas Parade of Heroes will be held this Sunday, Dec. 11, beginning at 2 p.m. The City of Auburn will “celebrate, recognize and honor” all veterans, law enforcement, EMS, firefighters and other civil service workers.  A decorated float contest will be held. Preregistration of those who will be in the parade is appreciated. A registration tent will also be set up at football field. Lady Panthers offering porkchop meal Friday before Todd twinbill

From Russellville Girls Basketball Coach Calvin Head: The RHS Lady Panther Basketball Team will host a Pork Chop Supper this Friday, Dec. 9, in the RHS Cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. Tickets are $6 and the meal includes pork chop, baked beans, cole slaw, and a drink. The supper is sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America and Managing Partner Sonya Cardwell. Tickets can be purchased from any Lady Panther basketball player or coach. Please come out and support this fundraising effort and after the meal you can join the excitement in the gym as both the Panthers and Lady Panthers will host Todd County Central for the first district game of the year!

Kailee Moore to play v-ball for Brescia

Logan County Lady Cougar Kailee Moore will sign her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball and attend Brescia University starting Fall of 2017. The signing will be held in the LCHS Library on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 3:45 p.m. Coach Steven Lyne's team won the district championship all four years she was in high school.

Logan cheerleaders win region

Logan County High School's cheerleaders won the regional championship Saturday, according to Athletic Director Greg Howard. The squad is coached by Jessie Meguiar Creech. Members of the squad are Jordan Hall, Jewel Dowlen, Alyssa Gilliam, Tiara Boisseau, Tyra Boisseau, Mikayla Strode, Jillian Long, Allyah Townsend, Cora Brooks, Rylee Warden, Hope Dodson, Ginny Edwards, Sam Vaughn, Braiden Baptiste, Lexi Chick, Aerius Biggs, Kile Todd, Monica Hines, Cassidy Jernigan, Leah Goodwin and Emily Travis.

Schochoh Christmas Parade set Sunday

It's time for one of the most popular events of each year in Logan County. The 27th Schochoh Community Center's Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. with the theme "Small Town Christmas." There will be free BBQ after the parade along with an auction. T-Shirts will be available to purchase! Vendors are welcome to set up a booth in front of the Community Center. The annual Christmas celebration at nearby Red River Meeting House will be held in the late afternoon. For more information, contact Jennifer Moore at 270-772-1245.
