We are currently accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year and are proud of the accomplishments of the nine current scholarship recipients.
Two of those individuals are adults who have changed their path to attend

college. One young lady was a first grader in my classroom who has been working at a local fast

food place and raising three children. It took some time to build up the courage but she finally

decided to follow her dream of attending college. And guess what she wants to be...a teacher!

I'm also happy to announce that the Mike Smith Scholarship is a Founding Advocate of the new

Morris Jeff Community School in New Orleans. Our friend, and past artist-in-residence, Jenny

Bagert and family are founding a brand new institution of world-class, open-access public education. New Orleans held a special place in Mike's heart,
and still does in mine, so I am terribly excited to be part of this innovative project and wish I could be one of their first teachers. Find out all
about it at the link below.
