Principal Kim McDaniel has announced that five Russellville Jr./Sr. High School students recently received notification of acceptance into multiple prestigious programs. Junior Kelsey Harris has been selected to participate in the Commonwealth Honors Academy sponsored at Murray University for this upcoming summer. Emilie Gill, Jason Fox, Jeffrey Fox, and Ethan Mullen, all juniors, have been invited to participate this summer in the Kentucky Governor's Scholar Program.

The Governor’s Scholars website says, "The Governor’s Scholars Program is a summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky who are rising seniors. The Program originated in 1983 as a result of Kentucky leaders’ concern that the state’s ‘best and brightest’ were leaving the Commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere without fully understanding the potential of their talents at home.

”Students who are selected attend the Program without charge. In the spirit of partnership, the Office of the Governor, the Kentucky State Legislature, and private enterprise come together to provide the financial support for the Program.”

In addition to his acceptance into the GSP program, RHS administrators have also received notification that Jeffrey Fox has been entered into the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. He is one of 50,000 students out of more than 1.5 million students who took the PSAT, which is used for qualification into this program. He will be notified in the fall of this year on whether he will be named as a National Merit Program Semifinalist or commended student.

“On behalf of the faculty, students and staff of Russellville High School, I want to commend and honor these students for these outstanding accomplishments in their academic careers,” McDaniel says.
