Makeup days for city schools start tomorrow

Because of recent inclement weather closures (including multiple snow/NTI days in late January and early February), Russellville Schools need to make up instructional days to meet state requirements.

Superintendent Kyle Estes is recommending to the Board of Education that tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 16, (currently President's Day – a non-instructional day) be designated as a makeup instructional day for students and staff.

Estes notes, “This was pre-approved in our original 2025-2026 calendar (adopted November 2024) as an available makeup option.”

To minimize disruption at the end of the 2025-26 year, the proposed amendments for makeup days are:
*Designate Feb. 16, (President's Day) as a full makeup instructional day for students and staff.
*Designate May 19, (currently a primary election day/non-instructional) as a makeup instructional day for students and staff.
*Move the students' last day of school from May 21 to May 22.
*Designate May 22 as a makeup instructional day for students and staff.
*Move the staff closing day (last certified/classified workday) from May 22 to May 26,.
