Senior Farmers' Market voucher

distribution to begin Thursday

With the 2023 Logan County Farmers' Market set to open for the season Saturday, Senior Voucher distribution will begin tomorrow (Thursday). Residents ages 60 and over can get a card which qualifies them for a set dollar amount of fruits and vegetables. The cards must be used by the final Saturday in October, only at the farmers' market and only during regular market hours from vendors who have taken training to accept the cards. The vouchers can be obtained through an application process at the Senior Center in Russellville, which is located on West Sixth Street in the former home of Logan County Public Library, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on weekdays until they are all gone. The Logan County Farmers' Market is located in the pavilion behind the Logan County Extension Office.

Public library expands open hours

The Logan County Public Library has announced that it has increased the hours that the main branch is open. Following being closed for a few months during the Covid 19 pandemic, the library reopened under a significantly schedule, and it has remained that way ever since. Eleven hours are being added each week. New hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9-5 on Fridays, and 10-5 on Saturdays. The library will remain closed on Sunday afternoons.

RVK Youth Football plans Bash

Potential football players and cheerleaders who will be in first through sixth grades are invited to the Back 2 Football Bash Saturday, June 3, at Rhea Stadium, beginning at 2 p.m. Organizer Patrick Temple says registration for fall football and cheer will be available, but those who just want to have fun next Saturday are also welcome. Football players can compete in punt, pass, kick and 40-yard dash. Trophies will be awarded to the top three participants. Cheerleaders ae invited to prepare a cheer routine and also compete for trophies.

Logan schools and public ibrary

combine for Summer Meal Program

Logan County Schools and Logan County Public Library are partnering to provide meals during summer events at the library. This is for ages 18 and under. Meals must be eaten on site. The schedule can be found in the accompanying chart.

VBS at Bethany set next week

With schools ending their year, Vacation Bible School season is upon us. One of the earliest will be next week when Bethany Church of Christ holds theirs. The theme is "Glow: Shine Bright for Jesju." It will be May 31-June 2 from 6-8 p.m. The church is located at 620 Lickskiilett Road, in the Olmstead area.

Emerson to close Russellville plant

One of Russellville's oldest industries is closing. Tuesday morning, employees at the plant, which has been located at the same site at the intersection of Hopkinsville Street and what is now known as Emerson Bypass for 62 years, were told that the factory will be completely closed down during this calendar year. By early afternoon, the Emerson parking lot was completely empty. A corporate press release says, "The company will provide severance package and transition support to all affected employees. The facility closing is expected to be completed by September 2023.”

Barren holds off RHS 2-0 at region

A great effort came up just short for the Lady Panthers of Russellville Monday evening in the Fourth Region Softball Tournament at WKU. Pitcher A'mijah Collier and a strong defense held regional favorite Barren County to just two runs on three hits, but RHS wasn't able to score and only had a single hit in the first six innings. Coach Ryan Davenport's veteran team finished with 20 wins, a regional runner-up trophy, an All A Classic sectional championship and a berth in the All A state quarterfinals.

Cougars and Lady Cougars lose at region

The end of the season came for Logan County diamond sports Monday in regional openers. The third time was the charm for Allen County-Scottsville, which had lost twice in softball games to Logan County. The Lady Cougars had scored 21 total runs against the Lady Patriots but fell 6-3 this time. The baseball Cougars had lost by a run to Bowling Green during the season, and it happened again. This time the Purples scored a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Cougars 7-6.

Cougars to open region at BGH

Two seemingly evenly matched teams will open the 4th Region Baseball Tournament Monday when sixth-rated Logan County goes to fifth-rated Bowling Green High for a 5:30 p.m. first pitch. Very early in the season, the Purples edged the Cougars 3-2. Logan's bracket is powerful. The winner will face the survivor between first-rated Warren East and number three Russell County. 13th District champion Franklin-Simpson hosts number two South Warren while Barren County and Clinton County comprise the fourth game. Only South is rated above the Cougars in that bracket.

From what Director David Dayton calls "a very strong group of young ladies auditioning for LCHS Band Field Commander which made the decision VERY difficult," Hannah Britt was chosen Field Commander and Makayla Nichols Assistant Field Commander for the 2023 marching season.

RHS Commencement Saturday morning

The final day of the school year for Russellville students was today, but the seniors still have one more engagement in the high school building. Commencement for the Class of '23 will beginat 10 a.m. in Jim Young Gymnasium.

Russellville board awards 3% across-the-board raise

From Lisa Rose of Russellville Schools: On March 16, the Russellville School Board approved a 3 percent pay increase across the board for ALL staff. This is the second year that increases of 3 percent or higher have been approved. There has been no time in (Russellville) history that pay increases of this magnitude have happened not once, but two years in a row! The board members also made sure that no teacher will make below $40,000 a year. Please be sure to thank our board members for their support."

Ribbon cutting for Auburn Bank Friday

A ribbon cutting for the newly constructed Auburn office for Auburn Bank will be held Friday at noon. The bank is located at 236 Sugar Maple Drive adjacent to U.S. 68-80. The Logan County Chamber of Commerce will conduct the ceremony.

Lady Cougars win Clash, district title

In another close game between two excellent teams, the Logan County Lady Cougars beat visiting Russellville 4-1 for the 13th District Softball Tournament championship Wednesday night. That means Coach Gary Gettings' team will play a runner-up from another district to start the region next week, and the Lady Panthers will take on a district champion.

Cougars win district opener, to play F-S

Without a single extra-base hit, the Logan County Cougars blasted Todd Central 10-2 Monday in their 13th District opener at LCHS. Coach Ethan Meguiar’s team scored the 12 runs on 7 singles and 7 walks. Samuel Hayes and Davin Yates each had 2 hits while Brady Hinton and Hayes recorded 2 RBIs each. Chance Sweeney pitched the complete-game victory, allowing only one earned run on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out the Rebels 12 times. The Cougars will host Franklin-Simpson in the district championship game this afternoon at 6. The teams split wins on the season.

Lady Panthers' bats bang out district win

The Russellville Lady Panthers crossed the plate a dozen times Monday in a 12-8 shootout with Franklin-Simpson. This came in the opening round of the 13th District Softball Tournament at Logan County High School. Now the defending champion Lady Panthers will try to win the title again against a  team which has beaten them twice this season, the Logan County Lady Cougars. This is a rematch of last year's exciting finals when Coach Ryan Davenport's team won Russellville's first-ever district title. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at LCHS.

Public meeting about improvements

to U.S. 79 in Logan County planned

A public meeting has been scheduled to present alternatives for an improvement project for U.S. 79 in Logan County. The meeting will take place Thursday, May 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Russellville High School. Representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet along with a consultant will be available to share information and answer questions. A survey will be available for attendees to fill out and turn in before.

Top seeds win district openers

The top seeds won their district tournament openers Monday behind good pitching and defense. In softball, the homestanding Logan County Lady Cougars held off Todd Central 3-1 for their eighth win in the last nine games. On the LCHS baseball diamond, the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats eliminated te Russellville Panthers 10-1. The Wildcats and Lady Cougars move on to district championship games this week and regional tournament next week.

U.S. 79 plans in Todd County

A public meeting has been scheduled to present alternatives for an improvement project for U.S. 79 in Todd County. The meeting will take place Tuesday, May 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Guthrie. Representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet along with a consultant will be available to share information and answer questions. A survey will be available for attendees to fill out and turn in before leaving the meeting. The church is located at ,7600 Russellville Road, Guthrie 42234.

Russellville Schools Panther Drama will present Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella three here more times this weekend. Curtain times at deGraffenried Auditorium are Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. /the first performance was Friday night.

Taste of Adairville to open

Strawberry Festival Saturday

"Taste of Adairville" is a luncheon with delicious foods that are provided by ladies of several churches in the Adairville Community. It will open the 75th Adairville Strawberry Festival Saturday. There will be meat dishes, veggie casseroles, salads of all kinds, and .desserts! "Taste of Adairville" will be held from 11-1 at the Living Word Church Fellowship Hall in Adairville. Tickets are $10 per person with all the proceeds going to help the Community Thanksgiving Meal to be held at Adairville School that BIG FISH (churches) provides. You can also buy your tickets at the door of Living Word Church as you arrive.

Early primary Voting begins today

Early voting begins today in the  Logan County Primary Elections. County Clerk Stacy Watkins notes, "This year decides who will be our Governor, Secretary of State, Ag Commissioner, Auditor, and State Treasurer!." Any Logan County voter registered as a Republican or Democrat is eligible to cast votes Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Logan County Extension Office. The official Election Day is Tuesday.

Cougar baseball game moved to South Warren

Because of field conditions, the Logan County Cougars' baseball game tonight against South Warren will be played at South Warren instead of Logan County. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30; it will be a JV/V doubleheader.

Auburn Bank opens in new Auburn site

Auburn Bank was open in its new Auburn location for the first time Monday. After being an anchor of downtown commerce on Auburn’s Main Street for decades, the office is now located at Sugar Maple Drive in a highly visible site parallel to four-laned U.S. 68-80. The Russellville branch continues to be located at 404 Hopkinsville Road. The firm changed its logo from Auburn Banking Company to Auburn Bank to start 2023.

Kyle Estes named interim

Russellville superintendent

Former Hancock County Schools Superintendent Kyle Estes was named interim superintendent of Russellville Independent Schools at a called meeting of the board of education Tuesday. He is teaching higher math at RHS this semester. He and his famiiy live in Russellville currently and two of his children are students at Russellville High School. He will begin his duties June 1. The position came open when current superintendent Larry Begley accepted a similar post in Bourbon County. Watch The LoJo for more details.

Russellville Rural Fire annual fundraiser Saturday

Russellville Rural Fire Department will hold its annual fundraiser Saturday at the Extension Office in Russellville, starting at 6 p.m.. There will be an Auction with entertainment by Clay Bilyeu. A meal of pork loin sandwich , baked beans, coleslaw and a desert will be served. There will also be a kids plate with hot dog and chips. Chief Cheryl Allen says, "Please come out and help us help you! If you would like to donate give me a call! We look forward to seeing all of you on the 6th."

Cougar bass fishing duo earns regional runner-up

Logan County Cougars Kamdyn Coomer and Landyn Gorrell finished second this weekend at the KHSAA Region 1 Bash Fishing Tournament. They competed at Lake Barkley and finished with 15 pounds, 1 ounce. The regional champions weighed in at 16 pounds, 3 ounces. Landyn and Kamdyn will now be fishing in the KHSAA State Bass Championship at Kentucky Lake May 12-13.

Begley leaving R'ville superintendent post

Two years and four months after he became superintendent of the Russellville City Schools, Larry Begley is leaving. Russellvillians found that out when Bourbon County Schools announced that he has been chosen as that system’s new chief officer. Located in Paris in the Lexington area, Bourbon County High School is four times the size of RHS. Chairman James Milam has called for a special meeting of the Board of Education for Tuesday at 6 p.m., presumably to start the familiar process of selection a new superintendent.
