The Russellville Board of Education adopted the revised calendar at the Tuesday, March 17 board meeting. Russellville Independent Schools has missed eight days due to inclement weather. Two days will be made up on March 13 and April 3.

May 6 – Testing Window during the last 14 days of school

May 19 – Election Day – No School - All staff will report for Professional Development

May 23 – Graduation at Russellville High School

May 25 – Memorial Day - No School

May 27 – Last Day for Students

May 28 – All staff will report for Professional Development

May 29 – All staff will report for Professional Development

May 30 – Official Closing Day (Schools may opt to return on Monday, June 1 as their closing day. Each school will need to decide.)

This revised calendar reduces the number of instructional days from 173 to 170 which is allowable under the law because we meet the 170 required six hour days and the minimum 1062 instructional hour requirement.

We cannot use May 19 for an instructional day because Stevenson Elementary is used as a polling location. However, we can have staff working that day at Stevenson but cannot be around the polling areas.

The rationale for making May 30 as our “official” closing day will benefit any staff member who may be retiring this year.

I want to thank our board for working with our staff on this calendar revision. It allows graduation to be held on May 23, which works well with Memorial Day for families who may be traveling.

Now that we have a very clear visual on when the testing window opens, we still have much work to do between now and May 6.

Spring Break is still April 6 – 10! Only 12 more days so we have to use every day from bell to bell for instruction!

Again, thanks to our board for working to meet the needs of our students and staff members!
