Last day for city school Friday

From Russellville Schools: The last day for student classes/NTI is Friday, May 1. All Chromebooks, textbooks, library books, and other materials need to be turned in by May 5. School personnel will be on hand Monday, May 4, and Tuesday, May 5, at RHS and SES to collect student Chromebooks, textbooks, library books, homework packets, or other borrowed materials such as art supplies from RHS. Chromebooks not turned in on the 4th and 5th will be disabled via the internet until they are returned.

Logan adds to COVID-19 cases

For the first time in weeks, Logan County's total of confirmed COVID-19 cases has grown. As of Thursday, the total had grown from 8 to 10. On the other hand, 8 of the patients have recovered. Meanwhile Bowling Green/Warren County continues to be one of the nation's "hot spots." The Warren County total has more than doubled in the last eight days, from 150 to 335. Edmonson County is also under siege with its total growing from 9 to 31 (244 percent) in those eight days.

COVIC 19 cases expanding

While Logan County's COVID-19 confirmed case total has remained stable, some counties in the area are experiencing a rapid growth in their totals. In the last five days, Logan's total has stayed constant at 8, but Warren County's caseload has grown by 60.3 percent from 156 last Wednesday to 250 today. Edmonson County's total has grown by 122 percent from 9 to 20 in that time frame. Barren County's total has increased by two-thirds from 9 to 15. Butler County's total grew from 71 to 84, slightly over 18 percent. Muhlenberg County now has 109 confirmed cases, 71 coming from the private prison there.

4-H honors volunteers, seeks more

National Volunteer Week provides an opportunity to thank Kentucky 4-H volunteers for their service throughout the year. 4-H volunteers serve in a variety of ways: as club leaders, camp counselors, coaches, council members, and assisting with fairs, school and community events. LCHS' Promise Willhite selected

to be Gatton Academy student

The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky has selected 102 current Kentucky sophomores for the Class of 2022. Gatton, which is housed near the top of The Hill at WKU, is ranked among the best high schools in the nation. One of them is Logan County High School's Promise Willhite, the daughter of Martina Willhite from Russellville.

KHSAA makes shut down

of spring sports official

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association has announced that the state boys and girls basketball tournaments are officially canceled because of COVID-19. Also, spring sports will not take the field this year. Softball, baseball, tennis, track and bass fishing are officially canceled. Logan County High School Athletic Director Greg Howard represents the Fourth Region on the KHSAA Board of Controls. Former Russellville High School Athletic Director Calvin Head is the coach of the Bowling Green Lady Purples, who had earned a berth in the girls state basketball tourney.

WRUS to air Wednesday

night’s discussion

This evening at 6, a new program will premier on WRUS. "Wednesday Night Live" will be a time of encouragement and discussion, featuring local pastors Joe Ball of First Baptist Church, Brad Rogers of New Vision Community Church & Nick Stamps of Post Oak Baptist Church. In addition to the radio broadcast, the program will also be shown on FB Live streams for these churches.

Local schools to continue NTI

the rest of the school year

The superintendents of Logan County and Russellville schools have announced they will recommend that their boards of education follow Gov. Andy Beshear’s recommendation Monday that no more face-to-face classes be held in the state's K-12 schools in the 2019-20 school year. Instruction will continue to students at home either online where possible or by written work when necessary. Some families are taking pictures of written homework and sending it to teachers digitally. This also means traditional proms and graduations will not be held, at least not within the next six weeks. This is all a result of attempts to reduce the spread of the Conoravirus in the Commonwealth.

Cougars Thompson & Nazario

sign to play college ball

Two members of Logan County High’s 28-4 boys basketball team have signed to play college basketball, Athletic Director Greg Howard has announced. First came word that Dalton Thompson will play for Owensboro-based Brescia University, a school which has long been a destination for Cougar and Lady Cougar athletes. Next, Jose Navario will play for Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn. Aaron ‘A.J.” Johnson, a 2000 graduate of LCHS who was a standout in baseball and basketball, is the long-time assistant coach at Bethel. Signing ceremonies aren't possible in this era of social distancing.

8th Logan County COVID-19

case has been confirmed

An eighth COVID-19 case has been confirmed in Logan County. WRUS reported Monday that three of those patients have recovered. The Barren River District Health Department has confirmed 136 cases of COVID-19 in the Barren River District, 31 of which have recovered. Barren County has six, Butler County 45, Edmonson County seven, Hart one, Logan County has eight, Simpson County 17, and Warren County 52. Our district has three deaths reported from COVID-19.

Logan confirmed COVID-19

cases grow to 7, but 3 recovered

The Barren River District Health Department has confirmed 128 cases of COVID-19 in the Barren River District, 31 of which have recovered. Monday the health department said Barren County has six, Butler 43, Edmonson County seven, Hart County one, Logan County 7, Simpson 16, and Warren 48. The Logan total grew by three over the weekend, but WRUS News says three of them have recovered. Meanwhile, the Bowling Green Daily News reports that Signature HealthCARE, which is affiliated with Morgantown Care and Rehabilitation Center, said Sunday it had received confirmation that 51 (29 residents and 22 staff) had tested positive for the coronavirus at its Morgantown location.

Logan meal distribution detailed

From Logan County School Superintendent Paul Mullins: This is an important update from Logan County Schools about meal service. We will be distributing meals tomorrow on Monday, April 13, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at all Logan County Schools. These meals will be for the entire week, 7 breakfasts and 7 lunches for any child 18 and under. There will be no other pick-up locations this week. We will continue to offer bus delivery to those who have already been receiving it. If you need any assistance in meal service for your student, please call your school. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Paul recovers from COVID-19,

makes hospital rounds

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul has announced in his weekly column that he has recovered from COVID-19. The Bowling Green opthamologist has been making rounds with doctors at Greenview Regional Hospital. He told the Bowling Green Daily News  he wanted to volunteer because it meant “one less nurse, one less doctor” without immunity who is exposed to coronavirus patients.

Point Church leading Pray With Us

Community mobile prayer services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in three different locations in Russellville. Prayers will be for workers in healthcare, law enforcement, emergency responders and others in the community as we deal with COVID-19. Locations are Logan Memorial Hospital’s parking lot, Carrico Park Square and Center of the Mark Ministries’ parking lot across from the jail. Those attending are urged to park and appropriate distances from each other. WRUS (610 AM & 104.9 FM) will air worship songs during the service. The Point Church is organizing the event.

Meals from Logan Schools

From Logan County Schools Superintendent Paul Mullins: Reminder, LCS will be distributing meals tomorrow, April 6 (seven days of food). Meals will be served at all LCS schools from 1-3 p.m. Delivery will be continued for those who have been receiving delivery. If you need assistance, please call your school office.

Logan schools may go back in session

From Logan County Schools Superintendent Paul MullinsGov. Andy Beshear has announced all public schools remain closed for in person classes through May 1, 2020. Logan County Schools will start NTI back beginning on April 13. Logan County students are now set to return (in person) to school on Monday, May 4. Over the next week and half be looking for updates on Chromebook t0 check out and school feeding schedules.

Flener to conduct Facebook Live
event on Tuesday evening

Russellville School Superintendent Bart Flener will hold a Facebook live meeting tomorrow, April 2, at 6 p.m. This will serve as a follow-up to his conference call with Gov. Andy Beshear to share any updated information. The public is welcome to be a part of it.
