The Logan County High School Department of Music returned to the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center to deliver its annual Winter Concert on Dec. 19. This was the fifth straight year the concert was performed at the facility, and as in the past, it proved an excellent means for even the biggest Grinch to get into the Christmas spirit.

The evening’s show began with the Jazz Band playing six selections including I’ll Be Home for Christmas, and (Not So) Silent Night. In addition to the more traditional seasonal selections, the band included the jazz standards Birdland and Chameleon, the later tune featured guest saxophonist Rob Beasley.

The high school Concert Choir followed with seven selections of their own including Cantate Domino, No Room, No Room, and Mary Did You Know. Their performance ended with the selection Christmas…In about Three Minutes, a song that samples 23 Christmas favorites.

Rounding out the evening’s entertainment was the Symphonic Band. The band featured six selections Fantasy on Deck the Hall, A Winter’s Dream, and concluded with Cowboy Christmas, which had a Western slant to traditional carols.
