The Barren River District Health Department recently received a grant to purchase signage to support the new House Bill #318 100% Tobacco Free Campus law. The department's Kathy Thweatt began applying for the grant in April. Once it was awarded she worked alongside the Russellville schools' Danny Perry to develop the design for the signs depicting Tobacco Free Campus.

As the signs were finished, Thweatt presented them to Russellville Independent Superintendent Bart Flener and Logan County Superintendent Paul Mullins at the Russellville Independent Schools Central Office on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Both school district leaders stated they were very appreciative of the partnership our schools have with the Health Department and are grateful to Kathy Thweatt for all she does.

She stated an organization in Louisville, the “Foundation for a Healthy KY”, has heard about Kathy’s grant and wants to adopt this idea for other districts. Mrs. Thweatt will also be distributing her signs to Butler County Schools on Friday and Edmonson County Schools on Tuesday.
