City school employees and board prepare for school year

Monday, Aug. 6, was the Opening Day for Russellville Independent Schools. Teachers, staff, administration, and board members gathered together at RJSHS to share a delicious breakfast, then proceeded to the deGraffenried Auditorium to hear opening remarks from Superintendent, Bart Flener.  

Russellville Mayor Mark Stratton introduced Russellville Chief of Police Victor Shifflett and newly appointed RISD Resource Office Ryan Brown. He also offered encouraging words of “don’t stop believing”!  I

ntroductions were made of the Russellville Independent School District Board Members James Milan, Davonna Page, Joe Sparks, and Phillip West. Lovis Patterson was unable to attend.  

RHS Principal Ben Bruni and SES Principal Robin Cornelius both welcomed back staff and introduced newly hired staff.  

The Russellville Marching Band joined the event and performed the National Anthem, The Fight Song, Louie Louie, and the Hey! song.  

At the conclusion, teachers and staff were dismissed back to their individual schools for further training and preparation for Open Houses to be held this same evening for RJSHS and Stevenson Elementary School.  

Students will return to school Wednesday, Aug. 8!
