The premier annual event in North Logan is upon us. The Hinton family’s Thunder Over Lewisburg fireworks show will be held July 4 in Logan County’s northern-most city.

The late Brent Hinton, who was a great community leader not just in Lewisburg but throughout the area, loved the Fourth and taught his children to share that patriotism, Beginning four decades ago, one of his sons, Clacy, and his wife Maxine began the tradition of shooting lots of fireworks at the family home.

Brent and Edith Hinton and Clacy and Maxine Hinton are no longer living, but their descendants have kept the tradition alive.

Clacy and Maxine’s daughters, Delores Coursey and Sherri White, reestablished the tradition and expanded it greatly in 2015. Sherri and Joey White’s son, Clacy White, is licensed to handle major league fireworks. He lives up to his credentials each year.

The public is welcome to attend the fireworks show Wednesday at dark. Clacy will handle the complicated logistics from the hill behind Lewisburg Lions Park.

This is a very expensive production. Fireworks, launching equipment, insurance and more add up.

Sherri Hinton White has been the lead spokesperson for Thunder Over Lewisburg, and she is also the chief fund raiser. She has secured several sponsors, but more donations are needed. If you would like to help and thank the Hintons for what they are doing for Logan County, contact her at 270-772-3126.

All donations are tax deductible.
