It’s fall harvest celebration season again"… time to party and dance!

The Johnson-Duncan and Friends Square Dance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, at the Sportsman's Club at Russellville City Park.

“Bring a dish or two, your dancing shoes and prepare to have a big night. Dale Hill and his band are again scheduled to play,” says organizer J. Henry Duncan. “We will also have the line dance and chicken dance- type music"

Several family members have been line dancing most all year at Auburn and at Bowling Green and will be in shape. Others will have to work into it more gradually. There will be music, food and dances for all.

“We keep the old tradition alive with the family and friends square dancing. We have an annual dance sometime around Christmas and more recently in late October,” Duncan explains. We have the live bluegrass band to play... some musicians come from Logan, Warren and Butler counties and as far as West Virginia! There are usually about 100 or so family and friends attending.

“Also, each year a smaller group of us family members square dance for the nursing homes in Russellville and Auburn. We are always energized by the interest these elderly folks show and they continue to invite us back. We mostly have recorded music there.”

James Henry Duncan is the square dance caller, a skill he picked up from their Uncle George Duncan and Johnny Orange when some of the group danced with the Red River Square Dancers under Mr Orange’s direction.
