The Carpenter Fitness and Aquatic Center in downtown Russellville will start its third annual “Fit in 6” program on Monday, Jan. 6. It will continue through six Monday evenings, ending Feb. 10. The weekly meetings will be held each Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Sportsman Club at City-County Park.

“This is an excellent way to help anyone get started with healthy lifestyle changes,” says Director JoAnn DeArmond, who is beginning her 14th year with the city-owned Carpenter Center, which is starting its 17th year. “We had great success with the program last year and are very excited to offer this program again.”

“The challenge is about letting go of old habits and replacing them with new ones,” explains Assistant Director Angie Miller, who is an instructor in the program along with Lisa Graham Yell and Jarrard Duncan.

The program includes a weekly one-hour group training session, before and after body measurements, weekly weigh-ins, nutrition advice, informative handouts, weekly drawings for prizes, and a prize for most improvement at the end of the six weeks. That most improved improved award requires an accumulation of earned points based on bringing a food journal to weekly meetings, attending two extra classes each week, and attending weekly meetings.

Selina Blick of the Logan County Health Department will make a motivational presentation on healthy living at the Jan. 13 meeting.

Fit in 6 is a fitness challenge that is designed for all levels of fitness. The program promotes healthy habits that will encourage students to choose a healthy lifestyle change.

As participants meet with trainers, each week’s focus will educate and encourage them to make positive changes to reach their fitness goals.

Anyone interested can pick up information and entry forms at the Carpenter Center. Membership is not required. The fee is $20 per person.

The Carpenter Fitness & Aquatic Center is currently offering 50 classes per week in areas such as indoor cycling, cardio & weights, Dance Fit, water fitness, body awareness, yoga, deep water fitness, , weights, cycle & tone, Silver Sneakers, yoga for beginners, Lunch-Crunch Circuit, and Carl’s Cycle Circuit.

Membership has grown to 2,800, DeArmond says. People can be members monthly without signing long-term contracts, and a daily fee of $5 is available.
