Cougars outscore good Rossview team

Logan County and Rossview High School from Clarksville lit up the scoreboard last Saturday as they combined for 20 runs. The Cougars won the offensive battle 12-8 in seven innings. There were 21 hits, including eight extra-base hits in the game.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the sixth, with six lead changes. Logan County took the lead in the sixth inning and held on for the victory. The Cougars scored on an RBI single by Jackson Campbell, driving in Austin Rayno to give Logan County the lead for good. 

The win came against a very good team. A few days earlier, Rossview had beaten the team which was ranked first in the nation at the time.

Bradley Taylor racked up five RBIs on two hits for Logan County. He singled in the first inning and homered in the fifth inning. 

Rossview jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Cougars came back. More runs came home on an RBI double by Dylan Penick, two ground outs, and a single by Jack Wright.

Hunter Crafton got the win for Logan County, despite giving up three runs in one inning.

Ethan Smock pitched the first five innings. Michael Riley worked the final inning. He didn’t allow a hit and walked just one.

Riley, Taylor, and Kaleb Justice each had two hits with Rayno, Campbell, Wright and Penick getting one each. Penick, Riley and Justice each doubled in addition to Taylor’s homer. Nick Wooden got an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Rayno and Wright were hit by pitches. Campbell stole a base.

Cougars 3, Butler County 2

Cousins Rayno and Campbell each had two hits with Penick and Wright getting one each. Rayno scored two of the runs and Wooden the other. Campbell and Wright picked up RBIs. Campbell and Rayno each doubled. In addition to their hits, Campbell reached twice on errors and Rayno on one. Campbell, Wright and Wooden each stole a base.

Jordan Hendrix pitched well for six innings, allowing a pair of runs on eight hits and no walks. He struck out eight Bears. Wooden got the win by pitching a scoreless, hitless and walk-less inning. He was the pitcher of record when the winning run scored.

Starting pitcher Blake Graham had three hits for Coach Ben Grey’s Bears. Reliever Eddie Phelps took the loss.

Breck 2, Cougars 1

Breckinridge County and Logan County both got good pitching, but Breck was able to get the winning run home late in the game.

Tommy Krohn allowed only one run while pitching well into the sixth inning. He gave up five each of hits and walks while striking out one. Riley took the loss, although he gave up only one hit and no walks while getting half of his four outs on strikeouts.

Rayno and Taylor each had two hits with D.J. Beard managing the only other safety. Wooden lofted a sacrifice fly and Ashton Ross sacrificed. Koby Wall and Wooden were each hit by a pitch, and Rayno stole a base.

Trey Woosley went the distance on the mound to record the win for Coach Jeremy Bennett’s Tigers. Brock Lucas had two hits.
