The Logan County Cougars lost a game but gained a fan Tuesday in a 77-69 loss against visiting powerful Bowling Green Tuesday.

“We played a good team tonight. They feel good about their bunch. Their big kids are good and their guards are underrated,” veteran BGH coach D.G. Sherrill told Michael Compton of the Bowling Green Daily News. “They won’t be any fun to play if they get to Diddle Arena this year.

“They stayed aggressive on us. Hats off to how hard they played. It was kind of a war around the rim… If their bigs can play like that, they can make some noise in the postseason.”

The Cougars were very competitive with the Purples throughout the game. The third quarter was highlighted by 12 lead changes.

Logan’s last lead came at 57-56 with 5:25 remaining on the game on a three-point play by one of the big men Sherrill was praising, Taylor Blakemore. He could have added to that lead on the next possession but missed the front end of a bonus situation. Both Compton and the WRUS radio crew of Zack Woodall and Ben Brown thought that was the turning point in the game, since BGH then went on a 10-2 run.

A goal by Ben Wright, the other big Cougar drawing approval, cut the lead to 63-58 with 1:48 remaining, but that was a close as Coach Lonnie Mason’s Cougars could come. Austin Rayno hit a reverse layup and Noah Whittinghill and Tahmir Graham sank 3-pointers in the last 65 seconds, but the Purples would answer immediately.

Wright finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Blakemore added 13 points and 5 rebounds. Dalton Furlow and Jose Garcia joined Whittinghill and Graham with 3-pointers for Logan, which improved to 17-7 Tuesday with a 55-35 romp at Clarksville Rossview.

Kyran Jones had 23 points and 10 rebounds for Bowling Green (22-4) and Terry Taylor scored 15 points and added 7 rebounds. Jones hit 8 of 12 shots and 6 of 7 free throws.
