Season statistics back up postseason honors for Cougars

It should be no surprise that two Logan County Cougars were among the top honorees in the Fourth Region Baseball this season. Coach Ethan Meguiar’s team was not only the defending regional champion but won 26 games on the way to their fourth straight 13th District championship.

Junior Caleb Bruner was voted Player of the Year by coaches in the region. He and classmate Matt Harper were also selected as the two players to represent the region in the Junior East/West All-Star game. Their statistics below show why. They are both adept at pitching, hitting and fielding.

Bruner was also one of two Fourth Region playesr named All-State. The other was Ryan Hinkley of Glasgow.

Adding to the Cougar honors was the selection of veteran pitching coach Kyle Wall as the region’s Assistant Coach of the Year.

The 13th District got another honor when Franklin-Simpson’s Craig Delk was named Coach of the Year.

Another local connection: Ty Pitts of regional champion South Warren was one of two players chosen to represent the region in the Senior East/West All-Star Game. The junior college signee is the grandson of Paula and Ron Timberlake of Logan County. Alex Turner of Russell County will join him in that game.

Chosen for the Sophomore Showcase were Stuart Posey of Bowling Green and Bobby Williams of regional runner-up Russell County.
