The good news for Logan County and Bowling Green is that the co-favorites don’t have to play each other in the first round of the Fourth Region Tournament. The bad news is that they are in the same bracket. The better news for the Lady Cougars than for BGH is that the tournament will be played at LCHS.

After drawings conducted Saturday by Tournament Manager Hugh McReynolds, who is the LCHS athletic director, BGH coach Amy Wininger learned that her first-time 14th District champions will meet 16th District runner-up Clinton County Monday at 6 p.m.

Following that, Logan will take on 15th District runner-up Allen County-Scottsville. Coach Julie Spurlock’s Lady Patriots have not played either BGH or LCHS.

The toughest opening round match-up finds Monroe County, which has the second best overall record in the region behind the Lady Cougars, meeting South Warren, which has the third most wins.

For the first time in memory, perennial regional champion Greenwood not only didn’t win the 14th district but is not in the regional tournament. New coach Lauren Brown’s Lady Gators finished 13-22 overall and 4-9 in the region.

The other two teams in the region meet in Tuesday’s second game. Russell County, the 16th District champion, will play 13th District runner-up Franklin-Simpson in the final opening round game. F-S upset Coach Debbie Elliott’s Russellville Lady Panthers 23-25, 26-24, 25-10, 25-3 in the district.  It was only the fifth win of the season for Coach Stephanie Mercer’s Lady Wildcats.

The semifinals will be Wednesday night. Logan and BGH would play the first game. The finals will be Thursday at 6:30.

A 15-member All-Tournament team will be chosen. The two finalists will get three players each with the champion fielding the MVP. The other two semifinalists will get two all-stars while the four first-round losers will have one each named.
