“The East Invitational at WKU came on a beautiful day for track and field last Saturday. The Logan County Cougars continue to find the right combination of putting people in the right events to tussle with the mighty Tornado from Paducah Tilghman on May 4 for the regional championship,” says Coach Greg Howard. “We had some great performances and some that were below the standards we set for ourselves.”
Leading the way with another double-double personal best (PR) for the third meet in a row was Tyler Wood. He now owns the 3rd best discus throw (133’ 10”) and the 2ndbest shot put (42’ 11 ½”) in the region. “Tyler continues to put together a great run towards becoming an individual regional championship in both events,” Howard says.
The Cougar 4 X 400M Relay Team of Colton Spencer, Dylan Cole, Michael Sydnor, and Sye Head captured first place and a new state leading time (3:32.35). Spencer also finished 4th in the 400M Run (53.31), and he anchored both the 4 X 200M Relay (1:34.48. ) to a 3rdplace finish and the 7th fastest time in the state rankings and the 4 X 800M Relay (8:47.71) to a 5th place finish and the 5thfastest in the state.
Aaron Foster became the first Cougar 100M dash runner to break the 12-second barrier this year with a time of 11.75 (10th). Noah Thomas is coming along nicely and set a new PR in the 1600M Run (4:58.75).
Cole also placed 3rd in the 400M Run (52.63), which ranks him as the 10th fastest time in the state, and was part of the 4 X 200M Relay. Justin Rone continues to rack up points for his team as he placed 4th in the 110M Hurdles (16.38)—10thfastest in the state and a new PR, 5th in the long jump, 5thin the 300M Hurdles (44.28) PR, and 4th in the high jump (5’ 8”).
The 4 X 100M Relay placed 6th(47.53). Those team members were Korey Jaynes, Sydnor, Foster, and Wesley Duncan.
The girls had some outstanding performances also. Hayley Mayher ranks as the 3rd best discus thrower in the state. Although she did not have a great throw (79’ 7”), she placed 5th in that event and 9th in the shot put with a throw of 26’ 2.5”. Mayher also ran her first ever 800M in a time of 2:45.73 for a 9th place finish, and she added an 8th place finish in the long jump (12’ 7”).
Jasmine Martin had another promising meet as she placed 8th in the 100M Dash (13.88), 3rd in the 200M Dash (27.65), and 4th in the long jump (13’ 5.5”).
The girls placed 13th and the boys 4th in the 17 team meet.
