The Roy’s Bar-B-Que/First Southern National Bank Holiday Classic resumes this week at Russellville in a more streamlined fashion.

It’s the first time in five years that the formerly huge tournament has been played. During its final seasons in the older format, both RHS and Logan County served as hosts for fields of eight boys teams and eight girls teams. WRUS joined Roy’s and FSNB as a sponsor then.

This year, all games will be in Russellville gyms (senior high and middle school) with eight boys teams, none of them Logan County and none of them girls. All the teams will play two games Tuesday.

The tournament opens at noon Tuesday with Coach Tim Riley’s Owensboro Catholic team facing a school he previously coached, Springfield, Tenn. That will be in Jim Young Gymnasium. At the same time, Trigg County will play Clarksville Northeast at RMS. Then at 2 p.m., Coach Carlos Quarles’ Russellville Panthers will take on Hancock County in the RHS gym in the only game of the day matching Kentucky schools. Murfreesboro Oakland is to play Metcalfe County In the RMS gym at the same time.

The semifinals will be played after that. The Panthers will play again at 8 p.m. against a team from the Trigg-Northeast game, depending on the results of the opening games. If RJS is in the winners’ bracket, they will play will play in their own gym. With a loss, they will head over to the RMS facility.

Four games will be played Wednesday for final placements in the tournament. The championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, $10 tickets bought for the 12 & 2 p.m. games may be used for entry to the evening session (6 & 8 p.m. games). $5 is the charge for the evening session (6pm & 8 p.m. games) only.

On Wednesday, the admission price is $5 all day.
