Coaches named for district-wide middle school basketball teams

Logan County High School Athletics would like to announce the new Logan County District Middle School basketball coaches. We are proud to announce these fine coaches and welcome them to the coaching ranks at our school.

The girls basketball team will be coached by Kristen Rodgers and Brent Hinton and the boys basketball team will be coached by Jerry Epley and Drew Teel. These coaches will lead the district teams with pride and a great deal of energy. We are excited to have them on board and now the work begins.

Kristen Rodgers - 8th Grade Girls Coach -

Kristen Rodgers has been employed with Logan County Schools since 2012. She served as a para-educator for five years at Olmstead School and is currently the attendance clerk/secretary. Kristen is married to Michael Rodgers and they have an 11- year-old son, Karson. She graduated from Logan County High School in 2001 and continued her education at Western Kentucky University and Bowling Green Technical College (now SKYCTC) with an associates degree. She played middle school basketball for the Olmstead Lady Rams and then continued her basketball career at Logan County High School, playing at the varsity level as a Lady Cougar from the year 1998 to 2001. She has been the Olmstead Lady Rams basketball coach for the past three years and is excited to continue her coaching career as the Logan County Middle School 8th grade girls coach.  

Brent Hinton - 7th Grade Girls Coach

Coach Hinton is a 1987 graduate of LCHS. He was a 4 year varsity basketball player and a member of the 1984 State Championship Team. He was named All-District in 85, 86, and 87 and was All-Region in 87. Brent was inducted into the LCHS Cougar Foundation Hall of Fame in 2017. Brent married Amy Goodman, a 1994 graduate of LCHS, and they have been married for 18 years. They have two children together, Abby (a Junior at LCHS) and Brady (7th grader at Lewisburg Elementary School). He also has an older son, Jordan, who is now married and has two children of his own.

Brent has continued his love of sports through the years including coaching Jordan for several years in AAU basketball, coaching Brady’s travel baseball team, and currently serving on the Little League Board. For the last three years, he has dedicated his time as the Head Coach for the Lewisburg Middle School Boys and Girls Basketball Team.

Jerry Epley - 8th Grade Boys Coach 

Coach Epley is married to Amanda Epley and they have two wonderful children, Kelby and Nora. Kelby will be attending Thomas More University to play basketball and majoring in Bio/Chem(Pre-Med. Nora is an 8th grader at Auburn Elementary where she is active in basketball and softball. Jerry brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to the program with over 10 years of coaching experience. Over the last 10 years, he has been very successful in coaching travel basketball at an elite level. Coach Epley was also an assistant coach for the Logan County Cougars from 2013-2017. Coach and his family have been a part of LC for many years and involved in the Auburn Baseball/Softball program, Jr Pro basketball and participated in various other community activities. Coach says, "I am very excited for this opportunity and look forward to a bright future. Go Cougars!”

Drew Teel - 7th Grade Boys Coach

Drew Teel has served as a Special Education Teacher in Logan County Schools at Olmstead Elementary since 2016. Prior to that, he taught at Russellville High School. Coach Teel has many years of experience coaching at various levels. He served as a Middle School Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach at Alabama Christian Academy while he was in college. After graduating from Faulkner University, he served as the men’s graduate assistant coach at Auburn University at Montgomery. He coached there for two years and helped AUM win the regular season Southern States Athletic Conference title as well as reaching the “Elite 8” at the NAIA National Tournament. He also served as the head coach for boy’s middle school basketball at Russellville Middle School. He has most recently served the last three years as the Olmstead Middle School boys head basketball coach. Drew is married to Elizabeth Teel, who serves as the Assistant County Attorney for Logan County as well as the City of Attorney of Russellville. Drew and Elizabeth have a four-year-old daughter.
