Giving hope for continued improvement this winter, the Logan County Cougars had a great summer of basketball camps.
Coach Harold Tackett and his staff took the roundballers to a pair of camps over a nine-day period that found the varsity going 19-3. The Cougars list
their final game at the Georgetown College Team Camp, but that loss came in the tournament finals. Logan had won 13 of its first 14 games before
falling to Frankfort in the championship game.
Seniors Drake Downey, Troy Graham and Tyler Davenport led the way, reports Assistant Coach Mike Draper.
Over 150 teams were present at the camp June 11-14, when junior varsities, freshmen and middle school teams are included. LCHS was well-represented in
both. The LCHS Junior Varsity and Freshmen teams won a combined seven games.
The middle school Cougars went 11-2 after starting out 8-0. The team consisted of eighth grader Tahmir Graham and seventh grader Taylor Owens from
Auburn, seventh grader Garrison Rosser from Lewisburg, eighth grader Jose Garcia and his sixth grade brother Lorenzo from Olmstead, and eighth graders
E.J. Offutt and Tanner Chapman from Chandlers.
The Cougars then attended the Morehead State University Team Camp June 18-20. Over 40 teams were present at this tournament The LCHS Varsity team went
6-1, led by juniors Twin Lancaster and Aratan Martin and sophomore Torrin Graham. The junior varsity went 4-3 and was led by sophomore Nick Offutt and
freshman Clint Knight
"The kids played a total of 18-22 games in a span of a week and a half," Draper notes. "I can't rememer everyone we played, but at Georgetown we beat
Bullitt East twice along with Louisville Eastern and lost to Estill County. At Morehead we beat Powell County, South Floyd and Nelson County, and lost
to Johnson Central. There was not a tournament at Morehead but I believe we finished with at least a share of the best record at camp."
In addition to Draper, the assistant coaches were Tim Arnold, Lonnie Mason and Matt Tackett. Draper, Mason and Arnold will be the assistants during the
season. Matt Tackett was helping out during the camp. Mason has been an assistant in the program for several years under several coaches. Arnold served
as head coach at Caverna High School last year but lived in Logan County even then.
