Host Allen County-Scottsville hit 14 more free throws than Russellville shot in a 10-point win over the Panthers in the season opener last week. The Panthers were whistled for 34 fouls and the Patriots 18. RHS went 4 of 6 at the line while AC-S dropped in 20 of 33 freebies.

Elijah Kemp, Parker Jones, Tanner Barker and Devon Kimbrough all fouled out for the Panthers while Jacob Naylor, Shawn Steele and Jacquis Todd were assessed four personals each.

As a result, the Patriots won 74-64.

One of the reasons the Panthers weren’t going to the line is that they weren’t going to the basket either. Coach Rex Booth’s team took 28 three-pointers, hitting 8. The Patriots also hit 8 from long range, but they took exactly half as many shots from long range (8 of 14).

The Panthers led 36-34 at the half, but AC-S took the third period 17-8 to build a lead the Panthers could never overcome.

Kemp and Naylor led the Panthers in several categories. Kemp had 23 points and 8 rebounds, both team highs. Naylor was the leader in steals with 5 while recording 22 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Steele was the team leader in assists with 3. Todd added 10 points and 2 assists.

Brett Rippy led the Patriots in the game with 29 points, including going 9 of 11 at the line and 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Owen Stamper added 19 points and Mason Shirley 14. Rippy had 7 rebounds, Cayden Ross 6 and Bryce Carter 5. Shirley had a game-high 8 assists.
