Six local juniors named Governor's Scholars
Five Logan County High School juniors have been selected 2011 Governor’s Scholars program. Participants are Meg Brown, Jennifer Gibbs, Shannon MacAllister, Barrett Rogers & Morgan Rogers. Joining them is Russellville’s
Caleb Wills.
Shifflett's offense strong despite lingering arm injury
Despite an arm injury that has kept him from pitching and throwing, Russellville junior Thomas Shifflett is among the top 8 batters in the area
in batting average (.448), hits (26) and RBIs (19). Also among the top 10 in stats compiled by the Daily News are Panther Seth Washington and
Cougar Dustin Cartas (tied for the 2nd highest batting average at .477), RHS' D.J. Quarles (7th at .449), Logan'sThomas Miller & John Logan Dockins (5th & 10, respectively, in ERA at 1.75 & 2.36) and Cougars Lawton Jackson & Dustin Nash(tied for 5th with 3-1 pitching records._

LAFF in downtown Russellville Saturday afternoon
The Logan Arts & Film Festival (LAFF) will be held on Carrico Park Square Saturday from 1-7 p.m. Vendors will show and sell arts, crafts and food,
a variety of bands and vocalists will perform, and movies will be shown in the Democratic Headquarters on the Square. Downtown businesses have been
encouraged to be open. The Logan County Arts Council sponsors the event. Heather Silvey is the chair and Mark Griffin is in charge of the
film portion. Admission is free.

Logan County High School senior Will McKenzie is now selling advertising space for The Logan Journal. He will be contacting businesses
about getting the word out through The LoJo.
Dr. Sally Ray to head WKU's Glasgow campus
An educator with many Logan County ties as been named director of the WKU-Glasgow campus. Dr. Sally Ray is the wife of Roger Vincent, who
previously headed Training at Logan Aluminum. She is the daughter of Jane Phillips Kelly, a Lewisubrg native who is the daughter of the late Z.L. and Laurine Phillips. Dr. Ray is the cousin of Tom, Chris and Chuck Phillips and the niece of the lateDorine Barber.
Currently, she is the assistant dean of Potter College of Arts and Letters at the Bowling Green campus. Dr. Ray previously was head of the Department
of Communication at WKU. She was also an assistant forensics coach at Wayne State University and Eastern Michigan University. She earned her doctorate
from Wayne State, master’s degree from Eastern Michigan and bachelor’s degree from Morehead State University.
Both Logan Ice teams playing for league titles
After beating Burns Middle School of Owensboro Tuesday to run their record to 7-0 the 7th-8th Grade Logan Ice basketball team will play Thursday night
at 7:30 against Breckinridge County for the championship of the Kentucky Wesleyan College Spring League on the main court. Daniel Alvis is the
head coach with help from Chris Wilcutt. On Court 2 an hour earlier the other Logan team will play for the 5th-6th Grade championship against a
team called Heat. Coach Zach Simpson relies heavily on Ann-Meguiar Bouldin, Logan Williamson and Claire Wilson to provide much of the
offense.

Logan Ice travel team starts 3-0 at Wesleyan
The 7th/8th grade Logan Ice girls basketball team began play on April 12 at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro and put themselves in first place
with a 3-0 record. The Logan County travel team consists of four 8th graders;Madison Alvis, Alana Hallman, Maegann Hardison, and Kapreshia Powell; eight 7th graders; Rachel Barnett, Taylor Borders, Jordan Goss, Cierra Johnson, Taleia Mason, Keechera Palacios, Desirae Powell, and Brittany Wilhelm.
They beat Ohio County 43-7, Breckinridge County 25-13; and Owensboro Middle 33-12. Individual scoring totals for first three games were; Alvis 17, K
Powell 14, Hardison 14, Barnett 14, Johnson 11, Mason 9, Borders 9, Hallman 7, Palacios 4, and Goss 2. For a schedule of games, call Coach Daniel Alvis at 772-0718.

Republican Auditor candidate to visit Logan Tuesday
Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., at GOP Headquarters on Carrico Park Square,. the Logan County Republican Women's Club will welcome Addia Wuchner,
candidate for State Auditor. Members are asked to bring at least a penny per years old or more to give to the Activity Fund of the Creekwood Place
nursing center. Members will also be working on baskets. For the silent auction and food and drinks this Saturday during the Arts and Crafts Festival
downtown.

Basham's return keys Cougars' win over Butler
Ryan Basham
, who had been sidelined by a broken wrist until this past week, led the Logan County Cougars to a 6-3 win over visiting Butler County Saturday. Basham
pitched 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and no walks with 6 strikeouts. He also hit a 3-run homer. Eight grader Matt Harper had 3 hits,
including a home run. Dustin Cartas, who hasn't been able to pitch because of a sore shoulder, pitched the final two innings of the win,
striking out 3 and walking 1 without giving up a hit. Ryan Steenbergen also had a hit.
In a 1-0 loss at Muhlenberg County Thursday, John Logan Dockins pitched 7 scoreless innings before giving up the game's lone run in the 8th. He
gave up 5 each of hits and walks while striking out 7. Cartas got 3 and Dockins 2 of Logan's 6 hits. The other one was picked up by Basham. Senior Kraig Farley of Dunmor, who is also an outstanding golfer, pitched 8 scoreless innings for the Mustangs.

Logan's Powell helps AAU team reach state finals
Logan County basketball player Kapreshia Powell helped lead the 13 & under Kentucky Blast to a runner-up finish at the AAU Kentucky State
Tournament this past weekend in Lexington. KP and her Blast teammates went against the Louisville Lady Jaguars for the second year in a row for the
state championship. The Blast fell to the Lady Jaguars 48-38 with Powell chipping in 9 rebounds & 5 points. KP led the Blast in their semifinal
contest with 8 rebounds & 11 points in a 50-30 win over the PAL Heat. The 13 & under Blast improved to 6-2 for the AAU season to date. She is
an Auburn 8th grader.
Colton Spencer honored; RHS in Logan track
Colton Spencer
, a sophomore runner on the Logan County track team, has been named Total Fitness Connection's Athlete of the Week and was honored on WBKO Thursday.
Spencer had super outings in the Cougars' performance in the Greater Gator at WKU and in a home meet last week.

In that home meet, for Logan, Elaina Hopkins won both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Taylor Oates won the long jump. Markita Pheal had a second. Hopkins and Pheal were on a second-place relay team along with Anna Holman & Leah ThompsonThe Lady
Panthers picked up a second in one relay run by Devonna Sydnor, Passion Townsend, Diamond Hines & Faith Morris.
First places for the Cougars were won by Avrey Collier in the 110 hurdles and Spencer in the 400. Second to him was Collier.Barrett Rogers & Maurice Pheal were parts of two winning relay teams along with Collier and Spencer on one and Sye Head & Noah Thomas on the other. Collier made it five for five top two finishes by placing second in both the triple jump and the long
jump. Rogers ran second in the 400 with teammate Head second in the 800. A relay team consisting of Clint Cole, Cody Thurston, Spencer Parsons & Aston Stewart was runner-up in one relay.
Panther Demarcus Hampton was second in the hotly contested 100-meter dash.
Movie to be shown at Lewisburg's City Complex
Lewisburg leaders will be showing the movie HOOT! today at 8 p.m. It was to have been outside, but windy conditions have moved it inside the
Lewisburg City Complex. There will be concessions for sale. "We encourage people to come out to enjoy the evening," says Mayor

Logan, RHS, F-S tied for district baseball lead
Following mid-week action, three teams are tied for first place in the 13th District baseball standings at 2-1. Russellville (10-3) swept Todd Central
(1-8) by scores of 14-4 and 14-0 Tuesday and Wednesday. The same two days, Logan County (9-4) and Franklin-Simpson (8-8) split a pair of games. The
Wildcats won 3-2 at Franklin before the Cougars romped 8-1 at LCHS.

Cougars sweep RHS tennis 9-0; Neblett edges Wilkins
Logan County beat Russellville 9-0 in a tennis Clash of the Cats this week. The closest match was at number 1, where Evan HarrisdefeatedJohn David Reeves 9-7. Other singles wins were by Jake Neiman over Will Oakley, Hunter Boswell overMcLean Shutt, Dalton Gunderson over Cameron Tisdale, Cory Jones over Chris Collier and Chris Oslonian overJohn Corum. In doubles Gunderson/Jones d. Oakley/Reeves, Boswell/ Oslonian d. Shutt/ Tisdale and Logan Johnson/Adam Wilkins d. Collier/ Travis McDaniel.

Logan County High School senior Hannah Hudnall will sign to play volleyball with Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, April 21 at 2 p.m. in the media
center at the school.
Cougar track places 2nd of 16 in WKU/Gator meet
Colton Spencer, Avery Collier, Maurice Pheal and Barrett Rogers
each won three events as Coach Greg Howard’s Logan County Cougars finished 2nd to Warren Central among 16 teams Saturday in the Greenwood High
School Great Gator Track Meet held at Western Kentucky University.
Logan dominated the 400 with Spencer finishing 1st and Pheal 2nd. Collier won the 110 hurdles alone and two relay events. The Cougars won the 4X800
meter relay with Pheal, Sye Head, Rogers and Noah Thomas running. They also took firsts in the 4X200 and the 4X400 with Collier, Pheal,
Rogers & Spencer running in both. Rogers finished 2nd in the 800.

LCHS tennis teams sweep Caverna matches
Coach Dan Duncan's Logan County tennis teams swept Caverna recently, not losing a match. Singles winners for the Cougars were Evan Harris, Jake Neiman, Dalton Gunderson and Hunter Boswell. The teams of Harris-Neiman and Gunderson-Boswell also won. The Lady
Cougars also won each event with Brenna and Meg Brown joining Lindsey Stahl in getting singles victories. Doubles winners were the Brown
twins.

Gough to perform at Horse Cave theatre Tuesday
An evening of acoustic blues with southcentral Kentucky's most accomplished bluesman Michael Gough of Russellville will be staged Tuesday at
Kentucky Reperatory Theatre in Horse Cave. Gough will be accompanied by famed Kentucky Headhunters guitarist Greg Martin and WKU guitar
guru John Martin, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Reception, roast for Frank Dockins
The Bethany Church of Christ in t Olmstead will honor Frank Dockins today. Refreshments will be served, beginning at 2 p.m, and a
pro-gram/roast will be at 4 at the church building. Dockins has spoken on their weekly radio program for some 55 years.
Open house at animal clinic
An open house and ribbon cutting for the new small animal hospital building of Logan County Animal Clinic on the Hopkinsville Road will be held Sunday
at 2 p.m. The new facility, which is located in a former bank/finance business, has a surgery unit along with four examination rooms and a large
reception area. The back of the nearby building which previously housed the entire clinic is being used to care for meat animals while a building in
between is being readied to care for horses. A pair of brothers-in-law, doctors David Woodall and Jon Todd, had headed Logan County Animal
Clinic for several years. They are joined by Dr. Ella Gripshover and Dan Tracy.

Easter in Adairville offers many activities today
Easter fun will be held in Adairville Saturday, beginning at noon with an Easter Bonnet Contest, Easter Bonnet Parade, kids’ games, bake sale and
pictures with the Easter Bunny. At 12:45, the park and fountain will be dedicated. The Easter Parade begins at 1 p.m. Immediately afterwards, there
will be an egg hunt for ages toddler through 10.

A Student Art Show will be held at the Kentucky Artisans at the Saddle Factory through the end of April. The art teachers from the Logan County and
Russellville city schools have selected one piece of work from one student to represent their elementary, middle, and high schools. Kentucky Artisans
will have a reception at the Saddle Factory on East 4th Street in Russellville this Friday from 4:30 to 6:30.

Cougars blast out baseball Clash win 16-4
Eight Logan County players got hits and 10 scored runs as the Cougars beat visiting Russellville 16-4 in a baseball Clash of the Cats Wednesday night.
Catcher Dustin Cartas and shortstop Ryan Harper each hit 3-run homers as Coach Ethan Meguiar's team built a 16-1 lead. Cartas was
on base all four times he came to the plate while Dustin Nash scored 3 runs and eighth grader Matt Harper, John Logan Dockins, and Ryan
Harper each scored twice. Ryan Harper drove in 5 runs. Matt Harper and winning pitcher Lawton Jackson each doubled among his 2 hits. Brice Moore, Jacob Hopkins and Dockins added to the 11 hit attack. Nash, Dockins and both Harpers were on base 3 times each for the Cougars
(8-3). Justin Hopkins and Brandon Sowell also scored runs. Ryan Steenbergen started at third base with Joe Holliday playing
the final inning.
Jackson limited the Panthers (7-4) to a run, a hit, and a walk in the first four innings. The hit was by D.J. Quarles, who scored in the first
inning when a grounder by Corey Wright was booted. In the final inning, Coach Lou Kendall's defending district champs scored 3 runs on
hits by Barrett Croslin and the injured Thomas Shifflett while starting pitcher Drew Hayes and reliever Zach Denney walked.
Hayes and Denney scored, while Seth Washington, Shifflett and Quarles picked up RBIs. Also starting for RHS were Caleb Wills and Layton Bush with relief defensive work feom Tyler Hall. The Panthers are hurt in the field and on the mound with
continuing arm problems plaguing Shifflett.
Lady Cougars' Rone to sign with Midway College
Logan County High School Athletic Director Hugh McReynolds has announced that senior center Miranda Rone will sign to play her college
basketball with Midway College on Thursday, April 14 at 1 p.m, in the media center at the school.

Kentucky's First Lady to campaign in Logan today
Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear will be in Russellville today at 5 p.m. at Democratic headquarters on Carrico Park Square. Her husband,Gov. Steve Beshear, is seeking reelection. With her will be Madeline Abramson, whose husband, former Louisville mayor Jerry Abramson, is on the ticket for lieutenant governor. The public is welcome to attend.

Denney's grand slam helps Panthers win A opener
Freshman Zach Denney's grand slam helped the Russellville Panthers beat Todd Central 13-3 in the opening round of the Class A regional baseball
tournament Friday night. The homestanding Panthers, however, lost to Glasgow in the semifinals Saturday. RHS will take a 7-3 record into Tuesday's
Clash of the Cats at LCHS.

Whitfield discusses passage of continuation budget
U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01) issued the following statement ng on a stopgap spending measure to keep the government funded through Thursday,
April 14, while averting a shutdown of government services:
“I am pleased to see that an agreement has been reached to fund our government for the remainder of the fiscal year while also making substantial cuts
across all sectors of government services. This morning, we passed a short-term stop-gap spending measure to fund the government until Thursday that
will immediately cut $2 billion in spending. I will be studying the details of this agreement closely and look forward to working with my colleagues to
pass this long-term spending agreement for the remainder of this fiscal year.”

Cougar baseball on five-game winning streak

Logan County Cougars are on a five-game winning streak heading into Tuesday's Clash of the Cats. LCHS picked up spring break wins over Metcalfe County,
Carlisle County, Livingston Central, and Hopkins County Central twice. The Cougars will risk a 7-3 record against visiting Warren Central Monday and
then entertain Russellville Tuesday.
LCHS greenhouse to open for another spring
Every since the spring of 1996, Bryan Estes and his vocational agriculture students at Logan County High School have been selling plants grown
in greenhouses at the school to the public. The growing season has been underway for several weeks and the selling season starts Saturday. The
greenhouses, which are located behind the school between the softball and baseball fields, will be open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and weekdays
from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Dr. Wood, Stan Markham among BGH alumni honorees
Dr. Dewey Wood
of Russellville is one of eight Bowling Green High School alumni who will be honored with a dinner and program at the school April 30. He is a retired
medical doctor as well as a farm owner and businessman. Another of the honorees is Stan Markham, a former state champion and WKU pitcher, who
has deep roots in Logan County,
Blanket/Trade Days at Red River this weekend
The annual Blanket/Trade Days will be held Friday through Sunday at Red River Meeting House. Those attending should bring the items they would like to
sell or trade, throw down a blanket or set up a table and let the fun begin! Items from any time period are welcome. Come watch Gerry Barker's oxen at work. There will be a community potluck on Saturday night and something special in the meetinghouse. Set up is Friday and
tear down on Sunday. Parson John will be preaching on Sunday.

Babe Ruth sign-ups will be held Monday and Tuesday, April 4-5 at the Russellville Parks and Rec Building. Sign-ups will be for ages 12 thru 15 and
birth certificates must be shown on the day of sign-ups. The time will be from 5-7 p.m. both days Contact Artis Stratton at 847-1453 for more

LCHS students receive top DECA honors

, a senior at Logan County High School, has been named the Kentucky DECA Member of the Year, DECA is an organization for business education and
competition. She is running for National DECA Vice President in the upcoming elections. LCHS junior London Kutzman recently was elected DECA
State President for 2011-2012. Newly elected DECA Regional officers include LCHS students Avrey Collier as vice president and Dakota Bray
as parliamentarian.
Lewisburg's Rosser headed to National Spelling Bee

Russellville Drumline hosting presentations tonight
The Russellville Drumline will present its show 'Imagine' free Friday at 7 p.m. at the RHS gym in preparation for the SCGC Drumline & Colorguard
Championships on Saturday at Lipscomb University in Nashville. Students from Logan & Todd Central high schools are part of the Russellville group,
which finished second at Greenwood High in its first competition only a point out of first place.
