The Russellville Southern Bypastop signsss Project is set to open Tuesday, Nov. 7 at approximately 2 p.m. The new route is approximately four and half miles long that connects KY 100 to U.S. 79. The project was awarded to Scotty’s Contracting & Stone, LLC in November 2015 in the amount of $12,824,639.

Motorists need to be aware that new roadway creates new intersections along KY 100, U.S. 431, KY 96 and a changed intersection at U.S. 79. Multiple safety features will be placed at each intersection with the Bypass.

The Southern Bypass and KY 100 (Franklin Road) intersection is a four-way stop with these safety features:

*Left turning lanes on each leg of the intersection

*All red flashing beacon flashing red in all directions of the intersection. The beacon will be installed within the next few weeks.

*Dual-mounted stop signs that place higher mounted stop signs on both sides of the road on each leg of the intersection versus the tradition single stop sign.

*Pavement markings on each leg of the intersection with the words “STOP AHEAD” painted on the roadway.

*Rumble strips placed on each leg of the intersection to alert motorists of an approaching intersection.

The Southern Bypass and U.S. 431 (Nashville Road) intersection safety features:

*A traffic signal is installed and will be turned on when the roadway opens.

*This intersection will tie into the current traffic signal by Russellville High School.

Route numbers will also change when the roadway opens. U.S. 431 will be re-routed onto the new bypass from the intersection with U.S. 431 (Nashville Road) to the existing bypass at U.S. 79 (Clarksville Road). U.S. 79 will be extended from its from current end near Russellville High School along the entire new section of bypass to U.S. 68 East (Bowling Green Road). KY 100 (Franklin Road) will end at the bypass. The section of U.S. 431 that currently follows Nashville Road to Ninth Street will be renumbered to KY 2146.
