On Saturday, April 22, Logan County High School sophomore John Hendricks was presented with a $2,500 scholarship by Optimist Club International.

Hendricks competed locally and won, then went on to win the Regional Optimist Club Essay Contest, “Chasing Optimism in the Face of Challenges.”

Russellville Optimist Club president Marie Gamble introduced Hendricks at the Regional Optimist Club International meeting in Radcliff. “This is the first time a student from Logan County has won the regional essay contest,” remarked Gamble.

The $2,500 scholarship was funded by Optimist Club International and by the Ruman family of Louisville.

John Hendricks is the son of Joe and Kaye Hendricks, and the grandson of Joe Wayne and Cathie Hendricks, all of Russellville.
