Cathy is a 1969 graduate of Russellville High School, where her mother, Hazel Carver, was the legendary band and chorus director. Her dad, Marvin Carver, was one of the original teachers at the adjacent vocational school. Although she lives in New Mexico, Cathy keeps in close touch with her hometown and her friends here.
Many of us shop online at Barnes and Noble for holiday purchases at this time of year - here is a painless way to get some shopping completed and help the deGraffenried Chorale at the same time. The Chorale will be conducting a fundraiser in cooperation with B&N bookstores from Nov. 19-26. The organization will receive a percentage of all online purchases made during this period.
This is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart... for the obvious reason that my mother, Hazel Carver, first formed the deGraffenried Chorale in the 1970s and served as its first director. Now the Chorale is suffering from the economic downturn and is in critical financial condition.
If you still live in Logan County, you know that this amazing group of singers is a local treasure. The county has long been known to have an appreciation for fine arts and culture that is phenomenal in such a relatively small community. It isn’t at all surprising to Logan Countians, but is clearly a rare thing - and something most communities of this size don’t have.
In order for the chorale to receive credit for your purchase, you will need to log in to<http://www.barnesandnoble.com/bookfairs/> and apply their special voucher number (#10599819) at checkout.
If Hazel touched your life - or that of your children or grandchildren - or if you never knew her, but appreciate having a high caliber performing group in your very own community, please do your part. And if you are in Bowling Green on Saturday, the 19th, please stop by Barnes & Noble where the Chorale with be performing at 7 p.m. You can make purchases that assist the Chorale in the Bowling Green store only on that day!
Please spread the word!
