Chandler’s Middle School is using Summit Learning, a virtual learning platform, for the 2020-21 school year. Summit Learning allows students to gain mastery of core subjects like math, history, English, and science, while also carefully developing the skills and habits of lifelong learners.

The Summit Learning Platform offers schools customizable curriculum, a range of educational resources and technology tools, professional development for educators, and ongoing coaching and support for schools.

While schools across the United States and Kentucky were not expecting a pandemic, we were prepared. Logan County School District and Chandler’s school have been preparing students for the digital age and ensuring that students are equipped with the kind of habits they’ll need to be successful long after they finish school — like knowing how to manage their time, set goals, reflect on their progress and reach out for help. Chandler’s staff and Summit Learning are further promoting these skills.

Chandler’s Middle School teacher Maggie Lyons spoke on benefits of the Summit Learning Platform,: “Summit Learning prepares for life after high school by helping to develop skills needed to successfully function in life. It also aligns well with the Logan County Profile of Success.”

Chandler’s Middle School teachers also use Summit Learning as a personalized approach on a schoolwide scale by using online learning materials created by Summit and following its model of making time for mentoring and independent learning during the school day. This allows teachers to keep that rapport with students during virtual learning.

One student said of the mentoring aspect of Summit, “Mentoring is helpful because I get to be closer with my teachers and connect especially with virtual learning. I like goal setting with my teachers.”

Chandler’s School Principal Bonnie Spears stated, “Summit Learning has brought a true mastery of learning by meeting students where they are in their learning in each content area.”
