The Logan County FFA recently had the opportunity to show off the FFA greenhouse to a very special group of people. As a school bus pulled down the gravel drive leading to the greenhouse, FFA members were stationed and ready for their guests. When the bus doors opened, little feet scampered out. Kindergarteners from Chandler’s Elementary School and Stevenson Elementary School were excited and ready for their tour of the FFA greenhouse.

The students had been learning about plants, farming, and agriculture. To further their knowledge, the Logan County FFA invited them to see how the greenhouse related to their studies.

Kameron Higgins, Claire Wilson, Jordan Goss, and Ann-Meguiar Bouldin welcomed the students at station one. These FFA members spoke to the students about what a greenhouse is and how the FFA grows plants there. They also talked to the kids about what the FFA was and discussed the influence of agriculture in everyday life.

The kindergarteners proceeded to station two, where they were given a tour of the greenhouse. Miranda Wright, Coleman White, Jordan Woodard, Katelyn Odle, and Kailee Shelton served as the tour guides. They taught the children how to seed, transfer, and take care of the plants the FFA grows in the greenhouse. They also spoke about what a plant needs to survive.

As the kindergarteners toured through the greenhouse, they enjoyed seeing the plants in full bloom and full of color. The students from Chandler’s Elementary shared with the FFA members that they were actually growing Marigolds, Zinnia, and Impatiens in their classroom at school.

After the tour, the children moved on to station three. Joey Dilliha, Blake Taylor, Dalton Nash, Isaac McCarly, Seth Cole, CW Simmons, and Brent Fuller helped each student prepare their very own potted plant. Each kid had the chance to fill their four-inch pot with fertile soil, plant a seed, and label their pot with the type of flower and their name. David Coleman finished off each pot by adding a sticker that depicted the FFA emblem.

Andrew Milam, 2016-2017 Logan County FFA president, spoke with the children as they potted their flowers and concluded the tour by thanking them for taking the time to come by and visit.

The Logan County FFA chapter was very excited to host Chandler’s Elementary and Stevenson Elementary School’s kindergarten classes. Being able to share about agriculture and how it impacts people every day is the mission of the FFA. The chapter would like to thank Chandler’s and Stevenson Elementary Schools for giving it this opportunity to fulfil this mission.
