A group of 14 Logan County High School sophomores took part in the Career Exploration event held at Western Kentucky University on Nov. 14. At the event, students involved in the school’s Educational Talent Search (ETS) program participated in workshops designed to allow participants to explore a variety of majors and career paths.
In addition to participating in workshops, participants also heard from current WKU students about various majors and the requirements and challenges the different programs might entail. Following the career discussions, students enjoyed lunch at the Downing Student Union’s Fresh Food Company.
Participants from LCHS were Emily Anderson, Nicholas Barker, Dana Boone, Savanna Cropper, Hannah Holman, Quentin Kemp, Ali Kessinger, LeAnna Kodiak, Ethan Lowery, Ti’Miya Merrell, Jesse Price, Sydda Lee Ross, Emma Trent, and Autumn Woodall. The school’s ETS Academic Coordinator is Cres’Sena Manning (WKU). LCHS librarian, Mr. Jon Jukes, accompanied the group to the event.
Educational Talent Search is a facet of the WKU-TRiO programs-- a set of federally funded college opportunity programs designed to motivate and support students as they pursue a college degree. ETS identifies and assists qualified youth who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling for its participants with its goal to increase the number of youths who complete high school and enroll in postsecondary institutions.
