At Stevenson Elementary, FRC Coordinator Carol Kees is the advisor for a group called K-kids. This stands for Kiwanis Kids. This program helps teach students to volunteer and give back to the community.

Tera Ragland says, “My daughter was in K-kids and LOVED it…she looks forward to being in it again if asked.”

In order for SES to have K-kids, the Russellville Logan County Kiwanis Club pays for Mrs. Kees’ membership and pays for the membership of the K-kids.It was such a huge success at SES, they have agreed to extend it to Russellville Jr. High, which would include another adult membership for the sponsor.

In addition to the K-kids program, the Russellville Kiwanis Club does a great deal more for the community. This includes, but is not exclusive to providing a college scholarship for one Russellville High School and one Logan County High School student each year along with sending an RJSHS sophomore to the Hugh Obrien Leadership Conference every year, and sponsoring other youth-related activities in our area.

Once again this year, under the direction of Mrs. Kees, the K-Kids helped sponsor a food drive for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner. This program fed over 1000 people in Russellville and Logan County last year, providing a traditional Thanksgiving meal either by delivery or “come as you are” to one of the area hosts.
