At Adairville School, we pride ourselves on being a family; a school family that takes care of each other. Merriam-Webster defines family as “a group of people who are related to each other.” Related means to be connected to. Adairville School is our connection -- it connects us to each other and it is the heart of our community. This year we have made it a priority to find creative ways to reconnect with our families and have them back on our campus.
Camping Out with a Good Book
On Sept. 28, we hosted a Family Literacy Night for our primary students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Our family resource coordinator, Melissa Reader, and our librarian, Melinda Garrett, planned the event which was called “Campout with a Good Book”. The weather was perfect that evening for this outside event. Mrs. Marais read the book, A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee, around the campfire, and fun literacy games were played across the campus. Hot dogs were provided by The Point, and everyone received a S’mores Kit to make at home. Each student who attended received a book, and two lucky students won awesome door prizes.
Celebrating Fall with Adairville Families
Our school invited families and the community back to the Adairville campus on Oct. 29 for Harvest Fest. Food, entertainment, and fellowship was the recipe for success for this event. Entertainment options included bouncies, carnival games, music, dancing, costume contests, magic show, a silent auction, and even a princess experience. A variety of food trucks provided something for everyone. This fun family affair was made possible by our PTO, FRYSC, parents, teachers, volunteers, and some very generous donations.
Connecting through Conferences
In November, families were invited to participate in parent-teacher conferences. Teachers conducted these over multiple days in person and via Zoom. Our middle school students even led their conferences. Students were able to share their successes with their families and set goals for themselves. This was just another way for us to connect with our students and their families.
Providing these events and reconnecting with families has reminded us of how special a place Adairville School is and how thankful we are for our school family. The Adairville School family….first, you are a part of it, then it’s a part of you!
