Warren A. Sanders, 94, of Guthrie, passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at his home. He was Cave City native, born to the late Otto Sanders and Ida B. Smith Sanders. He proudly served three years in the United States Army. He served his country honorably during World War II in the Philippine and Asiatic Theaters.  He was a decorated soldier whose Decorations and Citations include: Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, and Good Conduct Medal.  He was also a member of the Guthrie Masonic Lodge and a member of the Guthrie First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mattie Knight Sanders; his daughters, Cherie Shemwell of Guthrie and Teresa Turner and husband David of Clarksville; his grandchildren, Kipling T. Turner of Oklahoma City and Laura T. Vien of Clarksville; and his great-grandchildren, Brent Michael Waggoner of Elkton and Mattie Lue Vien of Clarksville.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shannon Renee Waggoner.

Funeral services for Warren A. Sanders will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Febr. 13, 2018 at Summers, Kirby and Sanders Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Fentress and Pastor Karen Franklin officiating with burial to follow in Stokes Chapel Cemetery. There will be no visitation before the funeral service.
