Shirley Markwell, 88, of Central City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at Auburn Health Care. She was born Sunday, July 24, 1938, the daughter of the late Jesse James "Jimmy" Snodgrass and the late Olevia J. Jones Snodgrass. She was the wife of the late William Ode Markwell.
She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lewisburg. Shirley devoted most of her days to providing companionship to older adults.
Surviving are her son, James Ode "Bo" Markwell of Murray; her sister, Nell Meguiar of Auburn; and her seven granddaughters, five grandsons; and her many great grandchildren as well as many great-great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by three daughters, Shelia Ann Baum, Shirley Jean Reed, and Debra Faye Markwell; her son, Roger Dale Markwell; her sister, Stella Douglas; and her brother, Joseph Delmer "Bud" Snodgrass.
A funeral service will be at 11 am on Saturday, Aug, 8, 2026 at Price Funeral Home, Inc. located at 252 E. Green St., Lewisburg, with Bro. Larry Eaton officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
