James Macon Gardner Jr., 85 of Dunmor, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Heartford House in Owensboro. He was born Monday, Aug. 12, 1940, the son of the late James Macon Gardner Sr. and the late Eula Hunt Gardner. He was the husband of Anita Harper Gardner of Dunmor, who survives.
He worked for the Muhlenberg County Sanitation Department for 15 years and was a mechanic at LB Knight Motor Company. James was also a member of New Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a trustee and treasurer. He was also a graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel College.
Surviving are his daughter, Betty (Billy) Harper of Penrod; his son, Terry (Rebecca) Gardner of Dunmor; five grandsons, Matthew (Chasity) Alexander of Central City, Mark Alexander of Williamsburg, KY, Bradley (Kristen) Piper of Owensboro, Joshua (Paradise) Piper of Owensboro, and Harlan Gardner of Dunmor; five great=granddaughters, Alyssa Alexander of Central City, Willow Piper of Owensboro, Kendra Gallagher of Owensboro, Kaylee Cooper of Owensboro, and Kami Gallagher of Owensboro; three great-grandsons, Gabriel Piper, Caleb Piper, and Keith Bryant, all of Owensboro; two great=great-grandchildren, Ka'vontae Gallagher and Kayson Gallagher, both of Owensboro.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Gardner and sisters, Carmon Perry and Katharine Cecil.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at Price Funeral Home, Inc. located at 252 E. Green St., Lewisburg; with Bro. Ken Abbott and assisted by Rev. Ron Wingo officiating. Interment will be in Gardner Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at Price Funeral Home, Inc.
