Simmons, Violet Sarah

Violet Sarah Addison Simmons, 82, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. She was born Saturday, Oct. 9, 1943, the daughter of the late Coley Morton Addison and the late Rena Hester Gaston Addison. She was the wife of Russell Simmons of Hopkinsville, who survives.

She was a housewife and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Violet also spent many years singing with her sisters in the gospel group, the Harmoneers.

Also surviving are her sons, Tracy Knight of Russellville and Bodie Knight of Gordonsville; her sister, Mary (Richard) Allen of Beechland; her granddaughter, Lesslie (Michael) Strain; her grandsons, John Knight and Jason Knight; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lillian Hester Coursey Martin and Coleen Hutchings.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at Elk Lick Cemetery, located at 3073 Spa Rd., Lewisburg, Kentucky 42256 with Bro. Richard Allen officiating.
